If you put into perspective the amount of time and money invested in this project, its f**kn average at best and its a damn shame that the loony mind of such a wanker like axl rose ruined one of the potentially greates rock bands in history, appetite for destruction is one of the best albums ever recorded IMO.

You do realise that Axl wrote most of the best Gunners songs, right?

As for the new album, its garbage. Its like a poor man's NiN, and NiN is sh*t anyway.

Lyrics are one thing, the soul of a song created by good muso's is another.

If axl wrote most of the gunners best songs then why does this album which has taken an age to come forth pale in comparison to the earlier stuff they done? If axl was that good then why come up with this rubbish after 14 years?

That's your opinion

I'm really loving this album, particularly Sorry and This I Love (as I'd heard most of the other tracks in various forms earlier).
Buckethead is awesome, easily most talented musician in the band. It's a shame he left the band, although you can hardly blame him.
Absolute standouts for me are Sorry, If the World, There Was a Time, Better, This I Love and Prostitute

I don't know. You'd have to ask Axl why he would change such a successful format. I guess he wanted to completely change the direction of the band...unfortunately, the result is garbage.

Whether it is garbage is your opinion...

However, consider these factors...

1) It isn't 1992 anymore
2) Axl isn't living 10000 miles an hour fueled by alcohol, drugs and women anymore
3) Recording Appetite-esque material would be the dumbest move ever, as every man and his dog would accuse him of being unoriginal and in indirectly admitting that he wasn't such a musical force in the band

Therefore, we have an album that is pretty much commercial hard rock......what each song does, it does well.......it's experimental in parts, pure Axl in parts and is a new Guns N Roses sound......no one can say that Axl has used his former band mates and their material in his promotion of this new album......fact is, Axl has gone out on his own and put something together, however long it did take, which pretty much kills most of the stuff out there in the commercial rock scene.

You have some valid points. I never expected another appetite, the mere suggestion of such is ludicrous, however after 14 years, $20 mil and of course the Axl we all know he can be, I did expect something more than an album of yuppy cocktail lounge rock.

on the it isnt 1992 anymore comment, you better tell axl that cause last time I saw him play at some music awards, he had the same american football and little tights outfit he had on the get in the ring tour in 1992......

Axl is a great songwriter, just needs to be combined with some others that enhance what he does. He used to know a few.

Guns n` Roses Dismal First Week Sales

Guns n` Roses `Chinese Democracy` only managed to entice 20790 fans into stores in Australia last week and that wasn`t enough to topple stalwarts Pink and Kings of Leon.
Even if we give G n’ R a break and add in the figures sold before embargo (3,454), the tally for ‘Chinese Democracy’ is still less than last week’s sales for ‘Funhouse’ (27184) or ‘Only By The Night’ (24579).
The simple message here is Axl Rose waited way too long to release the epic ‘Chinese Democracy’ album and in doing so, many of the old G n’ R fans simply switched off.
By Gunners standards, ‘Chinese Democracy’ is not a great album, but in all fairness to Guns n’ Roses, this is as much a Guns n’ Roses album as Mick Jagger’s ‘She’s The Boss’ was a Rolling Stones album.
Face it; ‘Chinese Democracy’ is GnR lite..

A little more in link but nothing much.

In a sad way im happy and hopeful that it doesnt sell massively only because I think thats the best way to get GNR back together. As arguably my fav band of all time its been a pretty depressing 15 years and whilst I think its too late to capture the magic they were riding on back in the day id sure like to have 1 more chance at a real gunners album before I croak.

Ive been listening to Chinese Democracy a fair bit since I got it for Christmas and so can now comment on it.

I went from 'just horrible' to 'not bad' and back to 'average' for the final conculsion. Axls voice......yuck!

Its just not gunners. Chinese Democracy is problably the closest and isnt a bad rocker.

That Shacklers revenge is just so awful, the guitar work (which I suspect is Bucket head whom I thought could add something to this band, but if it is him im dead wrong) is just wanky and off, and Axls voice. Dear God what happened to his voice?

Sorry isnt a bad song, same with the better and (the blues it was pre known as) is ok aswell.

Madagascar I thought was going to be cool in an estranged kind of way when I heard the live versions but the studio version is crapola. The vocals are not right and the main guitar riff live which is real nice now has some other solo played over the top of it and spoils the whole thing, a case of to many chefs with the 3 guitarists they had at one point maybe.

That song also had potential for a real melodic and cool big solo but instead got covered with as many movie samples as Axl could find.

All in all a big let down to the name Guns N Roses, still has a few good songs but the shocking state of Axls voice and lack of real balsy songs is no good.

With the sh*t Slash n Duff have put out in velvet revolver and this crap now from Axl, maybe the reunion is well and truely past being anything but a money spinner.....

I don't think I've listened to it for a couple of months now. I'm not exactly rushing to put it back on either.
