I like Dufty, but that Dogs game where we got done 38-0 and a reggies winger in Reimis Smith ran around him not once but TWICE rang alarm bells for me. There were other instances where he failed to tackle anyone when people were coming at him (Parra game I think??)

If there are doubts suddenly about Dufty now, they are probably the games people are looking at. Seriously that was z grade stuff and undid a lot of his good work earlier in the year. Mann got removed from fullback for a lot less.

I’m still undecided if Dufty can cut it as our long term fullback, he has the ability for sure. But that rubbish in those couple of games won’t win a comp. So not totally surprised we are looking at other options.
There was also this incident... although Sims also at fault...

So it won't let me post the video but it is the time Joey Leilua stroll over after Sims claimed an obstruction. Dufty had a shot on Joey but decided to pull out. There were definitely other times he pulled out of making one on one tackles.

And then there was the time he held Joel Thompson up over the line, he was unbelievable good in that instance.

So by the look of it we have to look in the good player but bad boy basket to work out who we are going to sign.
Bad off field behaviour should ensure a discount and then when we get them back up and going again, we watch on as another club pinches them or we otherwise find out the baggage was always too much and the player flops.
Maybe that's why Mann is on the outer he just wasn't tainted enough to begin with?
Maybe we can get a psychiatric clinic going on the old Sizzler site and then we can buy a whole shit load of players who are needing redemption?
Little wonder we are called "Saints".

Duges and Packer are examples of players with chequered pasts doing well for us. Packer was great in 2017 and Dugan was pretty much rep quality his entire time until he started whinging about his contract.

In the right environment and with the right clauses built into his deal, Norman could be very good.

Taumololo had that run in with the cops a few years ago for egging cars..

I think a fresh start with us would do him wonders..

Pretty sure Kayln Ponga got suspended from school once too..

Dugan's issues were in fact very minor and exaggerated out of all proportion and Packer was doing hard time and really wanting to get a fresh start to what had been a very troubled life.
Norman hangs around with shit, gets involved with shit and will be a drifter with IMO little likelihood of fessing up to his problems let alone fixing them.
Norman's issues are a different kettle of fish and he certainly ain't no Wendell when it comes to sorting out his shit properly.
There are plenty of good quality clean skin players why don't we just get some of them?

Norman was playing his best footy of his career at halfback, until he got caught with drugs. Were the drugs a factor in his good form. Andrew Johns said that he took ecstacy and it certainly didn't harm his career.

Not 1 back has come to our club and improved out of site and in fact most become pedestrian very quickly.
GW was lucky he came from the Bellamy system as that has stood him in good stead but he does fade in games despite his obvious ability and IMO would operate at consistently higher levels at a different club and in a single season we have pushed Hunt to the edge so in essence will it make any difference who comes in the backs as the odds are clearly against them?
Unless we sign the best of the best (we know that won’t hapoen) the coaching deficiencies will outweigh the players ability so this is a circular conversation

Sometimes I feel it would be better to sack the coaching staff and just let the players do their thing. To keep them honest pay them 0 for a loss and double for a win each week.

I’m sorry to say but Dufty is a lightweight in a heavy weight sport. No one has mentioned the 12 times he has been dragged over the sideline before tackle 3 is up and therefore our team giving up possession in a sport where possession is “king”! No one mentions that his bones start to creek as soon as a high ball goes up and he has to back pedal more than 5m to catch it!
Dufty has great pace but that’s it ! I still smell a Widdop to FB move here somehow!

Yes- if the rumours are correct and Dufty is being shopped around for 2019, I wouldn't be surprised if SGI has Widdop to FB and Corey Norman to 5/8 as the plan. Norman apparently doesn't get on with Arthur and Parra can't afford Hayne without offloading a player and freeing up some cash so it may come off.

I'd rather Hayne at fullback than Norman at five-eighth.

TBH, I'd rather neither of them- both come with behavioural baggage we could do without- I want Dufty to succeed because his attack is just so great to watch -BUT- I fear he has the wrong body type and lacks the strength to ever be effective in jumping for the ball and making the tackles that count. Hope like hell I'm wrong.

I don't see the point of keeping Dufty. Even if he has a good year, he wants a 700k a year extension.

There are a couple of posters in here that I have literally never seen post anything but negativity. Literally never, not one positive post.
That astounds me. It really is just a platform to winge for a few in here.

Crush, I think most on here want the best for our club and like when you get a number of people in a room, some are bound to come up with different point of view. Even though we often are on opposite sides of a discussion, I always enjoy and respect the other point of view, even though I really don't understand how they arrived at such a view.

It is all part of the forum - which I have come to love. My wife often tells me that I spend more time on here than with her.

This 700k extension coyld be the reason we are supposed shopping him around, as opposed to his playing methods.

I like him but if the $ are true, let him go.
He hasn't done enough to warrant such an request and approach.

I don't like Norman but will take Hayne if his attitude is right.

We aren't shopping him around. His manager is shopping him around and then hoping for a release. He is on about 280k and so is still value for money in ISP.
