Their first album is sensational, one of my most played cd's. EP's before that great. Roll On still good, Modern ARTillery pretty good and then less said about the last two the better.

Still good live.

Hi Fi Way was the start of the descent into dribbledom... shame

fair comment ...if you wanted to hear SAE Parts 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9 for the next 20 years.

The drumming on SAE was dodgy..out of time quite a lot .The double kick drum sounded fuggen stupid in the songs it was used in.
Plus the drummer sings a song on it!!!

Probably why they sacked him for Rusty.

Every album has a couple of real good "live" songs I reckon.

Without Berlin Chair and Adams ribs SAE would be pretty dull.

as for HI Fi Way
Jewells and buletts, Applecross wing commmaner, purple sneakers ....fug it just every single song on the record is a classic .
you must be deaf.

I actually skip Adams ribs now I have heard it that many times.
Read where Tim Rogers finds it odd that it is one of their most loved songs.
Said he cannot even remember recording it.

Convicts ( album )is one of their best I reckon.

The only one I didn't really like was Deliverance. ..although it does have one or two real good live songs .."devil in you" always goes off.

If Hi Fi Way was their first release I would of thought more highly of it. It was run of the mill indie rock. And it would have made more sense as a pre-cursor to the rest of You Am I's records.

But it was the grungy garage sound and lyrics of SAE that made it one of my all time faves, like an aussie Alice in Chains, and between it and HFW there was some kind of dis-connect. I reckon Tim Rogers just got full of himself and went in the wrong direction. But they have had a good career, but will not be remembered as being GREAT in my opinion.

Just in response to some of the already mentioned bands:

Metallica - After The Black Album they just went downhill.

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie are brilliant. Not much to speak of after them, although I thought Adore had a couple of good songs.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Up to By The Way they were pretty good. Then every song started sounding the same.

Powderfinger - Liked everything up to Vulture St. Nothing after that.

Living End - First album was brilliant, second and third ok, four and five pretty average.

Unwritten Law - Thought Elva had some good moments, but overall should have stopped after their first album.

Pearl Jam - First two albums are two of my favourites. Had a few very good ones after that. Now, apart from the odd good song here and there they're pretty average. It pains me to say that.

Muse- All good. Nothing crap yet.

U2 - Pop was the beginning of the end.

Linkin Park - Have just been releasing crappy versions of their first album.

Public Enemy - Haven't been the same since Apocolypse '91.

I thought Adrenalize was pretty good.

And let's face it, they were never going to be able to top Hysteria.

Another one to list is Chris Cornell solo career. Did anybody hear Scream? Euphoria Morning was great, Carry On was ok, but Scream just flat out sucks.

what about bands like Mental as anything?
no new stuff ..they just do the club circuit.

They have made some great tunes over the years though...and I would probably go and see them just for the flashback .
also
Heuy Lewis and the news do an Amercian tour once a year .
It lasts for about 3 months.
They play pretty big joints to sold out crowds.

Then they have the rest of the year off to do whatever they like.

sounds alright to me.

silverchair - frogstomp and freakshow where decent neon ballroom ok, but there was only three songs on diorama that i liked and i couldnt stand young modern, daniel johns was better when he wasnt bohemian

eskimo joe - see above, i remeber first hearing sweater and wake up and they where great songs, and then they went emo/bohemian and started writing all these dark songs, inshala wtf does that mean

nickelback - i know, but i liked their first two albums after that side of a bullett and burn it to the ground is the only songs i like and apart from that all the other songs theye put out all sound the same with that soft delayed guitar over a slowish beat

powderfinger, i didnt really like hotels and golden rule was not much to write home about except burn your name, but vulture street and odyssey no5 are in my tope ten albums of all time


also this not necessarily an artists i like but one who should have hung up the boots a while ago
ice cube, he was part of nwa group, kings of the gangsta rap of the early 90s and some of the lyrics in nwa and his solo work would make an abusive sailor blush, he then goes and makes movies like are we there yet and the longshots which is disney schmulz in an attempt to do what i dont know and then he goes and puts out an album with songs like why we thuggz (with a z), stop snitchin and the gentleman trap, ??

Linkin Park - First 2 records were great third one was ok at best their new stuff though is weak.

Pennywise - From The Ashes was their last decent record for mine but since then it's just been bad.

QOTSA - The first 3 records were all very good (Songs for the deaf was awesome) but since then have delivered.

The Vines - Highly Evolved was really good and deliverd a lot of promise for mine but havent made much noise since then.

Foo Fighters - Last good record was One by one since then they have been pretty boring for mine.

Silverchair - Their first 2 records were great the third one was ok but turned into a pop band as far as I am concerned.

Helmet - Pains me to say that but since Betty they just have not been the same (obviously with everyone in the band but Hamilton being replaced being the reason).

Muse - First 2 records were awesome since then it has not been so great.

agreed foo fighters last good record was in your honour, and on qotsa, lullabies to paralyze was ok, not great but it was decent

audioslave is another first two albums where ok and then im not sure i didnt dig revelations apart from morellos solo in original fire

Apart from a few tracks I honestly did not like Absolution, BH&R was pretty good (although I seriously hate that song Super Massive black hole, plus it has been overplayed to death) anyway long story short what I am basically saying is that OOS & showbiz were out of this world good! Whereas I felt their last 3 records just didn't have that aura about them and I could not agree with you more on The Resistance!
