and he has now acted.

No, he's only spoken so far.

Blaming Greenberg is even worse still. He should be able to trust adults, who are well educated on the matter, to do the right thing. Treating players like children is a step in the wrong direction.

He's in charge right now so he is to be held accountable, not prior CEOs.

If he could just trust everyone to do everything right and everything just worked perfectly in the game's best interests it'd be a pretty easy gig that CEO stuff. Unfortunately this is the real world where people like Todd need to work hard and earn their handsome salaries.

He's not likely to back down from it now.

Hope not.

So we start suspending players from the past, Greenberg would then be criticised for trying to look like a tough guy by issuing meaningless suspensions to past players years after the incidents took place.

You lot will never be satisfied. You don't want to be.

What about a month ago.

Doesn’t matter a week or a year ago Greenmerk had his chance to do something but failed.

The blokes is full of it.
Worse than the last useless merkin.

I do wonder if this would hold up in court. They are a provate organisatiom but they aren't the ones employing players so they essentially a 3rd party preventing someone from being employed.
It would most likely hold up. There is plenty of similar precedent
.
For example; a teacher is dismissed from a school (their direct employer) for committing a criminal offence against a pupil. Let's just say he punched a girl. The education department then deregisters said teacher. 100% legit
Nothing stopping the teacher from trying to get a gig with a Private school (Rugby Union), or a Catholic school (let's say cricket). He could even try and get a teaching gig in England - if he could get a visa with a criminal record - but the Department for Education (RFL) would probably want a reference check from Education NSW (NRL) and that would not end well...

You argue that Greenberg should've done something prior to now

I raise Gallop's inability to have done anything about player misbehaviour prior to now and you dismiss it as irrelevant.

So we can't criticise Gallop's inaction IN THE PAST but we can criticise Greenberg's inaction IN THE PAST.

We finally have a zero tolerance policy being discussed on this issue. It's taken over a century. Greenberg did that.

Should he have done nothing and we wait for the next CEO? Or the one after that? Or another century?

Yes leadership on this matter is starting now. About bloody time, he deserves some credit for finally doing something that over a century worth of game leaders failed to do.

Don't act like this some issue that's been plaguing the game since inception that every administrator has willfully ignored until Tough Tits Todd had the bravery to finally do what no one else would. He could've laughed and said "no f**ken way" when Lodge wanted back in like every reasonable fan did.

So we start suspending players from the past, Greenberg would then be criticised for trying to look like a tough guy by issuing meaningless suspensions to past players years after the incidents took place.

You lot will never be satisfied. You don't want to be.

You said we can't go back in time, I just pointed out we have done so pretty recently.

Rubbish.

Consistency is all I'm asking for.

You can't bury 1 serial offender, after writing references for another serial offender the week prior.

FTR, I want both to be buried.

Inglis was actually punished though, whether it was before or after the court ruling matters not, as it was related to the same incident.

Whether the punishment was enough or not is up for debate.

Bolton got off and that was wrong. But surely what we're seeing now is indirectly an admission that he was wrong to not act strongly enough towards those who assaulted women in the past.

Something previous CEO's failed to do.

Greenberg has also said there will be zero tolerance from here on in. This is the right decision for now and moving forward. We can't go back in time.

He's done the right thing and righted previous wrongs with this ruling, to ensure they don't happen again. He can't do much more than that.

Regarding other incidents, sure more can be done. He's made a step in the right direction here, and he's being shat upon for it.

Sorry mate, Bolton didn't get off; he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of assault (on a woman) not sexually.

It is obviously the woman was advised unless she wanted her whole history dragged through the court like many rape victims it was better to accept the guilty plea to the lesser charge & move on with her life.

So Bolton (who I think is a good old fashion prop) has been found guilty of assault on a woman but the NRL have been silent. To me & many others that is not good enough.

That might hold relevance if Greenberg provided a reference for Inglis when that case went before the courts, but he didn't.
It holds immense relevance because at the same time as the issue of DV within the NRL playing ranks is at its absolute peak - with the NRL set to stamp offenders out for life with zero tolerance - Greenberg saw fit to provide a character reference to a bloke with a previous DV incident.

Greenberg should have looked at GIs rap sheet and noted that, not only has he committed a serious drink driving offence, but he has a past history of DV. Accordingly he should have, you know, minded his own f**king business and let the courts settle the matter.

Instead he went out of his own way to provide a character reference to a bloke with a prior DV charge whilst simultaneously cracking down on DV within the NRL. Ergo, he's a hypocrite who has opened himself up to accusations of double standards at every turn.

I don't think speeding is a form of assault against women.
Speeding while being half pissed could potentially kill somebody you halfwit.

I’ve always had a low opinion of Greenburg. Providing Inglis a character reference was the last straw.

Was this before or after he punched David Morrow's daughter?

"SYDNEY Roosters hooker Jake Friend has been fined $10,000 by the NRL club and ordered to undergo counselling and education after he was charged for a high range drink driving offence on Monday night.
Friend and his manager Steve Gillis met with the Roosters' disciplinary committee today where it was decided he would be heavily fined. He was earlier named on the interchange bench for Sunday's clash with Canberra and won't be stood down by the club."

GIs rapsheet is no worse than Jake Friend's apart from being Qld and Australian captain..

Nope.

You need to be registered and licenced with a state registered teaching body which oversees private AND government teachers to be employed as a teacher anywhere. This includes criminal and disciplinary checks.

Those cracks have long been covered over.

Lol comparing drink driving with domestic violence.
I'm not comparing. I'm stating that GI has both offences on his rap sheet and, as such, is utterly undeserving of a personal reference from the game's CEO.

When Jake Friend commits a crime and gets a reference from Toddles then you can come back to me with that comparison.

Blake Ferguson must feel comfortable knowing that if he commits a drink driving offence he can always rely on Todd to support him at court with a reference.

Has Jake Friend captained his state and country?

Pretty stupid trying to equivicate this with Barba.

I get that you are the low end of the intellectual spectrum, but you still aren’t getting the point. The character reference for Greg Inglis wasn’t due to the lack of relative seriousness of drink driving and speeding in Todd Greenberg’s eyes. It was due to Greenberg’s support of Greg Inglis, the person he is and the values he lives by, ergo his character. Therefore his past domestic assault incident is very much relevant. I trust Greenberg’s support has nothing to do with Greg Inglis being in a relationship with an NRL staffer.

I will let the mods take whatever necessary action for your defamatory comment on Jake Friend. Not only was he found not guilty of the incident surrounding Morrow’s daughter as CCTV footage showed that he wasn’t in the vicinity of the incident, he was awarded costs by the judge. Run along now little man.

The million dollar question is; Why take this stance now, on Barba, and not on the others who've committed similar crimes this off season? Why single out just 1 bloke? And I seriously think he needs to publically address the GI reference - that is a clear double standard.
