I
AM
NOT
SAYING
WE
PRAISE
HIM
FOR
WHAT
HE
HAS
DONE
WRONG
BUT
FOR
WHAT
HE
HAS
FINALLY
DONE
RIGHT

I know exactly what you are saying whether its written horizontally or vertically. I am saying its too little too late for Todd, he should've been a real leader as soon as he was put in the job, not just because the media and the amount of player f**k ups have given him no choice. If he'd come out with anything other than this strong stance on Barba and the other players this offseason then the outrage from the media and fans would be too much for even him to survive, he'd be out of a job. My perception of Todd as a leader(based on his history) is that if there wasn't a huge spotlight on this he would be in damage control and trying to sweep as much under the rug as possible.

Edit: And he hasn't even handled this right, he has banned the bloke based on what? A second hand re-telling of the evidence? That's the kind of failure to observe due process that ends up in court ala Todd Carney and the sharks.

Let's say 21 year old superstar Ben Lodge gets life banned from the only good thing he's ever managed to put together in his life.

Does he become a better or a worse man as a result? Is he more or less likely to re-offend?
It's not the NRL's job to be a sheltered workshop for dickheads. Perhaps with some more decisive action in the past we wouldn't be seeing rugby league in the news for all the wrong reasons this summer. There are plenty of good blokes in the league who would be rightly furious every time some knob acts up and creates a headline that reflects poorly on the game as a whole.

Really?
The NRL goes above and beyond in trying to educate these f**kheads and make them into less shit humans. A lot of players come from backgrounds and circumstances where this behaviour is the norm.

And the kicker - you might think well it's not in the NRL's hands at least, but it will STILL be reported in every major paper as FORMER NRL STAR.

It's not a black and white issue.

I don't see why the NRL should care what kind of childhood they had growing up. You break the rules - you're gone. Life's not fair, and the NRL isn't obliged to give these guys another chance because they don't have any other options.

No, nor is it the NRLs job to do what the justice system should be doing, yet here we are.

If the goal of harsher punishments is for the NRL to enact some social good, you have to consider whether the results actually reflect that goal.
We've all heard the phrase "if it wasnt for football this bloke probably would have ended up in jail". If the NRL being 'a sheltered workshop for dickheads' is resulting in lower crime, is it a positive result?

For what it's worth, how many paying fans have handed back their season tickets or foxtel subscriptions as a result of the NRL's perceived inaction? I reckon the answer starts with Z and ends with ero. I see a lot of complaining but not many willing to put their money where their mouth is

They have 100 percent lost fans because of this offseason.

The contrast to GI could not possibly be more stark.

When has a bit of drink driving ever hurt anyone? Its a victimless crime NRL players shouldn't be punished for that....well not club and state captains, if youre a nobody you'll probably be de-registered. Lol Greenberg has to go soon he a f**king idiot.

Then there's Scott Bolton, looks like he's free to play too after pleading guilty to assaulting a woman. Greenberg is foaming at the mouth over one case while allowing others to pass.

Not as up as they could've been obviously.
Which is it, have they lost fans or gained fans?

To me the numbers are that fans have been gained, in line with growth patterns from previous seasons.

I never said the overall number of fans has gone down. You realise its possible to both gain and lose fans.
