Hard ons are quality, if the original line up didnt call it a day when they did, they would have been huge!

It seems that the enjoyment of RATM was based largely around how close you were to the stage.

Being in the death circle just outside the D certainly improved my take on their set. Mind you during Killing In the Name Of I genuinely thought I was going to die. Rough as guts in there, copped a dozen elbows to the face, numerous knees and other blows to the legs and torso, and even got punched once, haha!

I only saw RATM, Silverchair, Regurgitator and Arcade Fire for their full sets (Silverchair sucked ass). The rest of the time I spent eating cheese on a stick and lining up for mid strength booze. I swear with ever more strict alcohol policies they impose at this event, it is like they are not only justifying, but actually encouraging drug use.

$7 for a 3.5% mixed spirit is simply disgusting

my mates snuck in 1.5 litres of spirits, they just smashed more bourbon into the bourbon and cokes

mid strength? don't you drink extra dry, the official beer of the big day out?

cat piss, and the fact beer can be had at full strength is completely at odds to any argument the promoters put forward as to why they restricted the alcohol content of any other drinks, while still charging full price for them

Solid day.

Highlight - During Tom Morello's set the bassist from Anti-Flag walks on stage and the two play an acoustic version of "Beds Are Burning"

#2 Highlight - Hearing "I will Lick Your A*sehole" and "!Song Formally Known As" by The Gurge. Massive fan since I was a kid (1st actual album was Unit) and the first time I've been able to see them live.

Silverchair are sh*thouse. Although the highlight was seeing Danny Buderus and Kurt Gidley absolutely f*cked behind me for their entire set.

Brand New - Meh, the singer tries too hard to be a mix between Kurt Cobain and Davey Havok.

Rage - Not as good as Tuesday, perhaps due to all my hype exploding through my loins several days before.

TAF - Amazing.

Something With Numbers - Not my genre, merely went to represent the Coast but wow, these guys put on a fantastic live show. If Red Bear knew about anything that wasn't related to boganism, he'd appreciate how hard these guys work and just how much the crowd enjoys it.

Got a bus back to a mates house in Coogee, crashed around 5am. Up again the next day to do it all again at the Coogee Bay Hotel for Doc Neeson, Choirboys and The Lazy's.

V Fest will totally rape BDO.

Short and sweet review of some acts i witnessed at the Sydney BDO..

Anti Flag - Could of been louder, should of been on later in the day, not bad. A bit bummed they didn't play a song i would've liked to of heard

Regurgitator - Good energy, great set, one of the better acts on the day

Hiltop Hoods - The main stages didn't fit them, should of played a smaller spot, was just background music.

Nightwatchman (Tom Morello)- Awesome, probably one of the highlights of the day was seeing his unrehearsed versions of Dirty Deeds and Beds are Burning (with some of the Anti Flag guys). Not typical RATMesque material but good to see a different side of a guitar god.

Grinspoon- Always reliable of a good show, should have been in Silverchair's or a later timeslot. Only caught the last fiew songs because i was at Nightwatchman

Silverchair- Thought it was a pretty flat show and not one of their best, should of been on earlier in the day

Arcade Fire - Terrible, boring, too slow, just crap!

RATM- f**kin awesome, worth the long wait to see. I missed out on tickets for the show at the ent cent, so i still had a full load. Could've played some more obscure songs and a longer set to fill Bjorks hole. The whole crowd jumping and how packed out the stadium was just too awesome to describe.

Do elaborate...?

Brand New did nothing for me. Their name screams irony as they offer nothing new from what I saw.

Same old "woe is me" screamo/teenager/flavour of the month band.

RATM weren't as good as at the Entertainment centre, played virtually the same set (except Sleep Now In The Fire) in the same order. Gotta say big kudos to the people at Sydney who were kind enough to stay in their seats at the main stages so my mate in the wheelie could see what was going on, and generally moving out of the way and the like. Everyone seemed to have a lot of love. Be nice if there were more viewing areas at other stages for disabled people.

Went to the Melbourne BDO - had an absolute blast.

Something With Numbers - Must be the 15th or so time I've seen them and it never gets old. Looking forward to the new album as the new tracks they played were simply awesome.

Operator Please - Now, I actually kinda like their music, but this live show did nothing for me. Don't belong on the main stage until they get their performance levels up to scratch.

Anti-Flag - Fast. Furious. Awesome.

Faker - Brilliant. I was a little sceptical before, now I'm a full-blown fan.

Gyroscope - Always leave me wanting more. Great live band.

Enter Shikari - I'd never heard anything about them before. Probably never will again. Uninspiring.

Shy Child - Interesting. Another one I'd never heard of before, but I'll most definately check them out again.

Hilltop Hoods - Always put on a fantastic show.

Grinspoon - Love them live, but this time I got the feeling I'd seen it all before. Well, apart from American Party Bomb, which I've never actually heard live.

Arcade Fire - Had high expectations, and they never came close. They certainly have a lot of different sounds, but they don't mesh well. Worst band of the day, comfortably.

The Nightwatchman - This is more like it. Great to just sit on the grass and chill out to. Like in Sydney, performed Beds Are Burning with two members of Anti-Flag, but was also joined by the brilliant Billy Bragg, which I was happy with as I completely mis-judged my schedule earlier and somehow missed his own performance.

Battles - Interesting.

Silverchair - Didn't have high hopes, which was lucky. They were ok, but the crowd only really got going when they played Freak and Israel's Son. Completely murdered Ana's Song.

Bjork - Didn't have high hopes again, but she was absolutely brilliant. One of the highlights of the day, and I was pleased to see she was only greeted with cheers, and not a boo to be found.

Lords of Lightning - Special mention to this electro-show. Wow.

Rage Against the Machine - Brilliant, but I suppose the expectation was a little unfair because they weren't as good as I thought they'd be. Still managed to be the best band of the day rather comfortably.

ok my BDO :
I have been a loyal big day out fan since 2001, but i gotta say this was the worst one i have been to! worst festival i have been to!

RATM - awful, possibly the biggest let down of the day! i am a fan (not a major one) but it was totally disappointing.

Silverchair: I am a modest chair fan and think they are the best aussie band in recent times, however the crowd were so disrespectful to them, could be due to the growing number of bogans each year! RATM fans im looking at you

Grinspoon: Same act different day

Gurg: Put on a good show

Hilltop hoods: See above

Dizzie Rascal: Pretty dam good

Krafty Kuts: See above

Carl Cox: unreal

Now i am not usually a fan of hitting the boiler room for so many acts yet the quality of the acts on the main stage this year was very disappointing to previous years!
BDO used to attract top quality international acts..this year was a let down!
I think the rise of bands at the moment are not the same quality as well. I mean house and electro are massive at the moment...

All in all i give the day a 6 outta 10. The bogan crowds are getting bigger and the quality of acts smaller!

Whilst i didnt like every act there i would never disrespect them by booing or throwing things at them! i would just leave (which i did)

I have seen some of these bands live before and i was let down.

Don't know how it was in Sydney, but in Melbourne Daniel Johns was wearing a garter. What's up with that? He says it's because he's getting married, but somehow nobody was believing it.

Well given that they've been around for nigh on ten years, they're hardly flavour of the month

What I was getting at is for the most part fans of bands such as TAF can't view "emo/punk/whatever you want to call it" as fastly inferior and could never live up to your lofty expectations

To put it bluntly, I saw Brand New and they were brilliant...great stage presence and the crowd really got involved.

TAF could fart the alphabet and you'd still call them amazing. Brand New could put on the show of their lives and barely raise a "meh"
