Cracking day on Sunday! Saw British India, Faker, Gyroscope, Spoon, Pnau, Arcade Fire, Silverchair, Bjork and RATM. Along with bits of Grinspoon, and Antiflag.

Silverchair was f**king woeful. Spot on with that remark about johns' american accent and annoying banter. A liked the guys wandering around with shirts that said frogstomp or f**K off.

Bjork was good but completely the wrong set time and stage. Nothing irritates me more than bogans whinging cause the one band they came to see didn't start playing before they were meant to.

Rage were freaking awesome though, Big Pete.. i'm not sure where you were but the crowd was going mental where i was. Could have been a little louder than they were though.

Besides Rage, my highlight would be the end of the arcade fire set. Breaking into a cover of Pixies Wave of Mutilation and one of the percussionists running through the middle of the D with his drum. Also onstage drum throwing fight and some cool tambourine tricks.

I agree about your comments on Bjork

we were sitting in front of the stage inside the D barrier watching her, the promotors must have been gobsmacked

there were more people in front of the empty stage beside her just waiting for Rage

I've never sat down in a mosh pit before, (unless of course Slipknot tells everyone to sit down)

she is not a BDO act imo

Bjork played the BDO before and went down a treat.

Of course, that was many BDO's ago and the event has changed and is much bigger nowdays

I liked her first and last songs, the rest where classical/opera type songs and didn't go down too well in a crowd that were all there to see Rage

poor scheduling imo

words fail me

the most amazing live band I've ever seen

RATM were made for the big day out

incredible

the only other highlight of the day ware th guys who made a sign "Operator Please Shut the f**k Up" and held it up while they were on stage, funny sh*t

Amen, RATM are the ultimate festival band. That was the best BDO performance I have ever seen and i've been to about 6 of them. I also thought Bjork was very good, i'm not into her music but she can pull it off live.

I hope all the Rage fans in "Love it or f**k off" shirts enjoyed Zach's socialist spiel.

I can't wait for Billy Bragg and Spoon. Plus the Arcade Fire, Bjork, Gyrosocpe, Paul Kelly, Blue King Brown, Josh Pyke etc. the line up freakin' rules.

Zach's speech at the Sydney sideshow was a tribute to Martin Luther King. Since it was MLK Day it certainly was a treat.

Last night's Sydney show was simply brilliant. I have been to many, many shows over the years, but I've never seen a crowd like it before. It was an untoppable performance. Highlights: 'Know Your Enemy' for sure.

Anti-Flag are pure sh*t though. "Anti-Good" was the general concensus after their set.

why because you don't know who the bands are because you are listening to top 40 radio stations????

Bands like Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying are phenomenal live, why don't you live a little and check them out. Whilst RATM I can see why people appreciate them, the whole Political rhetoric gets old and lame after a while, ditto with Morello's guitar playing. But IMO they were the best band on the bill at the BDO, but Paul Kelly?? Silverchair?? Bjork, you have to be f#%king kidding me......

lol top 40? i dont listen to top 40 no. I just listen to good old fashioned punk rock (frenzal of course along with some nofx pennywise bad religion, hardly underground but good music) and good hardcore(dead kennedys, minor threat, black flag, had a listen, that is what hardcore is about), not scremacore or metalcore.
Killswitch engage? pfft

Typical RATM fans attitude. It is pretty disgraceful that they were booing Bjork at the Goldy...

Here is a pretty apt quote from todays Herald:

"Apparently Bjork was booed by Rage Against the Machine fans when she appeared on the same bill as the American rockers at the Gold Coast leg of the Big Day Out on Sunday. Perhaps they thought she wasn't political enough. They've got it all wrong, of course. Rage are pantomime anarchists - Bjork is the revolution."

Fans like that give music fans a bad name...

Actually to be fair it is not just RATM fans that act in such a way. Metallica fans were just as bad a few years ago.

Dude - why don't you open your mind up to different music? Such fans probably need to realise that the whole day doesn't revolve around them and other people are there to see other artists.

Besides...you lost me at "arcade fire probarly one of the worst bands i have ever seen". Universally regarded as one of the best live bands on the planet and they are lost on you...

You'd think you'd have enough time to moan about it before the event. She was on the first annoucement.

Universally regarded? By who?

And just because it's popular consensus, doesn't make it so. Look at it this way. Judging by box office takings, Alvin & the Chipmunks must be an awesome movie. Doesn't mean I'm going to like it.

I'll be reserving my judgement until I see them at the Melbourne BDO, but from listening to their stuff on JJJ I have to say it doesn't really sound like my scene.

Oh and of course there's the possibility they had a bad day. Every act puts on bad shows, even those who are "universally" regarded as the best.

Er...who was talking about sales? I'm yet to read a really bad review of an Arcade Fire gig by a credible reviewer. Thats what I am talking about.

I still have no idea what you are talking about however...Alvin and the Chipmunks?

I was just saying, just because it appears to be good or popular doesn't make it so. I'm not talking sales either, merely drawing an analogy.

Oh and just because you're yet to read a bad review, doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

Oh, and as an aside, I note you qualify it by saying "credible reviewer". What makes them credible? That you agree with them?

Not at all - there are plenty of bands that are good performers live that I wouldn't like.

I was referring to someone like Bernard Zuel at the Herald as being a credible reviewer, as opposed to runatme who I would describe as "lacking credibility"...
