It's Fall Out Boy with John Mayer doing some guest work on guitar.

I find the comment of 'amateurish' amusing given that the guy delivering it is, as a guitarist, rated as one of the best active guitarists in the world these days by those within the industry.

He's got guts covering a song originally performed by EVH (which also happens to be one of the all-time great guitar solos) but that's about all he has got.

The guy on American Idol (dave Cook) did a great cover of Billy Jean. I think it was actually Chris Cornells arrangement but i'd never heard it before and thought he did it well.

As for the Fall Out Boy cover, well it is what it is. I didn't like the solo, i expected alot more (given Mayers reputation as a guitarist). Fall out boy are fine, i dont mind a little bit of pop in my mix of listenings.
