It's Fall Out Boy with John Mayer doing some guest work on guitar.

I find the comment of 'amateurish' amusing given that the guy delivering it is, as a guitarist, rated as one of the best active guitarists in the world these days by those within the industry.

:lol::lol: who rated him great? Rolling stones? bahahahahahaha

John Mayer is crap!!!!!!! it just shows you the gap bewteen modern guitarists and older greats!!!

Comparing John Mayer to Eddie Van halen is like comparing Craig Lowdnes to Mika hakkinen.

IMO the fall out boy cover is still a hell of alot better than that appauling collaboration on the 25th anniversery album. In fact all the collaborations on that album are abysmall.

I think you'll find it was Neil Finn who did that cover. He also did a rendition of Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye

Yes that was it..not bloody Paul Kelly.

Paul Kelly does Aussie Crawls ''Reckless''...damn fine job too.

Given that John Mayer is a blues guitarist, comparing him to EVH at all is geniused. But I won't let that stop you.

Because Fall Out Boy asked him to? The solo isn't even poorly played. People just see John Mayer, think of 'Your Body is a Wonderland' and other such cheeseball pop tracks, and assume the worst.

Eric Clapton, a considerably more gifted guitarist than Van Halen could ever hope to be, certainly thinks the world of Mayer's abilities. And while it's perhaps true that a good musician can play different styles - I doubt I'd be particularly impressed with any blues work Van Halen attempted.

 That solo is piss poorly played IMO and I find it disrespectful a two bit folk singer like john mayer would even compare his talents to EVH to want to attempt it.

Stevie Ray Vaughn on the other hand might have been able to pull it off, now there was a talent.

You don't know a lot about EVH then do you Misanthrope?

The same could be said for anybody's knowledge of John Mayer's work as a guitarist outside of his over-played singles.

That's often the problem.

Every time I hear VH on the radio it's jump - possibly their worst ever song.

Mayer has a self confessed distaste for his most successful single (Your Body is a Wonderland) - a single he didn't want to release but was convinced my marketing. If you have heard his work with Clapton or even his John Mayer Trio stuff - it's totally removed from the poppy, folksy stuff most know him for.

And what made Eric sooooo much better? curious...

Also, tell me what makes Blues so hard? i'm sure you're also a guitarist....

PS i've played all styles, even classical.

What makes his work so talented? from what i've heard of him he sounds no different to just being a solid rythem guitarist, much the same as Izzy Stradlin. He hasn't invented anything, his repitore seems very limited to just chord structures, simple scales ( if any)......tbh i've heard more complexity by Kurt Cobain.

So again what makes him so good? and dont use that bullsh*t 'feeling' sh*t, it's a cop out excuse for mediocrity.

the question is

Is ''Jump'' worse than ''your body is a wonderland'?

Both are the equal of stepping in dogshyte.

I agree actually, Jump was VH's worst yet most succesful song, however it does cotain a good guitar lick and fancy Keyboard scale;-)

Eddie Van Halen is no clean skin when it comes to butchering other peoples songs.

He owes Ray Davies and the Kinks a big apology.

Yes but at least he revolutionised guitar playing.

Certainly he would rate among the 5 most influential of all time.

Oh and elyod, fortunately Eddie possesses both
