Apparently Eddie wasn't too happy with some of Hagar's lyrics towards the end.

The song Humans Being was completely different originally, or so I read.

Obviously Roth was a party dude and wrote lyrics accordingly, whereas Hagar was a bit more standard love sh*t etc.

Roth was and still is the greatest lyricist of all time.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Now that is fuggen very funny.

I can see what you mean.
BWHAHAHAHAHA
Roths work?

am a victim of the science age, uh
A child of the storm, whoa yes
I can't remember when I was your age
For me, it says no more, no more
Nobody rules these streets at night like me, the atomic punk
Whoa yeah, wow
I am the ruler of these nether worlds
The underground, whoa yes
On every wall and place my fearsome name is heard
Just look around, whoa yes
Nobody rules these streets at night like me, the atomic punk
Ooo, Ahhh
I am the ruler of these nether worlds
The underground, oh, oh
On every wall and place my fearsome name is heard
Look around, whoa yeah
Nobody rules these streets at night like me, nobody, ah
The atomic punk

It reads like words to one of the kids tv shows my kid watches.
He is 2.

... and yet still far superior to anything Daniel Johns has EVER written.

Dave has a way with words, even though they are rarely serious:

Can't seem to sew
A single hole in my pocket
Lord, I've tried
Yeah, money talks
I should know
Mine always says, "Goodbye"

Stamps in my passport
Now they're polaroids and drinkin' stories
And I've got some good ones now,
It's getting harder to ignore me
Now I'm believing half the reason
Just for leavin'is coming home
Where ya been, and
Who'd ya do, and
What'ya done?

I'll be lounging on the Riviera
Riviera couch that is...
When you're surfin' 40 footers
You don't need no tricks
The future's looking brigher
Every beer that I pour in me
But even this I have to say
With absolute uncertainty

All I'm leavin' when it's time to go
Is my old blue jeans
an' gold brass zippo
Teach in turn
All these secret things I've learned
And all I learned from history ...
and careful how you take it
Is recognize the same mistake
Everytime you make it

Also:

My friend Jerry's feet are achin'
Says he's hittin' bottom
Says it's a sex problem
He told me so

I told him
"Jerry ain't the lovin' that you're makin' buddy
It's stayin' out all night
And lookin' for it makes you slow

I'm a little bit hungover today actually - smashed the Coopers down last night. I love Coopers.

I had 2 beers at band practise and feel like I had 10.

speaking of lyrics
Here are some of Tim Rogers .

LETTER TO GENE - Spit Polish
Ah Gene,
my first performance was a tribute to you,
I had my dibs on Ace but i was six feet two
At the age of 10 so it was blood capsules then,
and a bass of the finest scrap materials when,
God of Thunder played on the C30 tape,
my cotton mouth had developed to a stage
Where the absence of spit, meant that my bit,
of blood curdling theatre was reduced to a paltry
Spitting out of powder and pills,
the memory it haunts me still
But can you see the dedication i showed,
As I plowed thru my mothers wardrobe
A vest, some chain, and a stacked leather boot,
my reputation all but through
Slim the chance i'd make it home alive,
Before being beaten by some toughs in Grade 5
So tell me now is it just about the money?
tell me Gene is it just about the money?
Ah Gene, sometimes we're all business people it's true,
but it took me years to learn the riffs and the moves
My biggest acheivement over spelling and sums,
was learning side 3 to Double Platinum but oh,
I can't expect you to understand how i feel,
but Calling Dr. Love brought some changes in me
The sweet young kid who lived between footballl games,
became a child of the damned and threw my soul away
Oh, my spot in the Army was refuted goddamn,
my Dad sat me down and told me about the ManBehind the desk with a cuban cigar,
while the bands, all shivered in their cars,
So tell me now is it just about the money?
tell me is it just about the money?
I guess it's cold gin time again,
you know it's the only thing to keep us together

How's this one?

Gaping in the horizon
An entire continent cloached on ice
With giant icesheets constantly on the move
Seas of this continent so cold and invincible
Where icebergs more as monuments
Towards a dry damned earth

Behind the gates and mighty portals
Of the arctic polar circle
Builds the frozen layers of snow
A perfect platform to grow against the seasons
The snowbelts of Antarctica rise
With its dark polar winterstorms

Towering in the horizon
An entire continent cloached on ice
With giant iceesheets contantly on the move
Floating nearer with its tide and icy waves
The shadow of Antarctica spreads
With its masses of permafrost

The clima shifts to colder for the icier age
Glaciers stretches far washing everything away

Antarctica... the darkest face of ice
Antarctica... the coldest place of all
Antarctica... massive and unconquerable

Its drama will unfold

Immortal actually. They always write about grim and frostbitten kingdoms for some reason. In-fact, they even have a song called 'Grim and Frostbitten Kingdoms'.

The lyrics above are from a song called Antarctica.

Hmmm ... I'll try and find some Devin Townsend stuff although they're usually a bit weird ...

When it comes to lyrics- i love what claudio Sanchez does from Coheed and Cambria. Obviously his telling a story, but it reads so well.

Coheed and Cambria- Welcome Home
You could've been all I wanted
But you weren't honest
Now get in the ground
You choked off the surest of favors
But if you really loved me
You would've endured my world

Well you're just as I presumed
A whore in sheep's clothing
f**king up all I do
And if so here we stop
Then never again
Will you see this in your life

Hang on to the glory at my right hand
Here laid to rest is our love ever longed
With truth on the shores of compassion
You seem to take premise to all of these songs

You stormed off to scar the armada
Like Jesus played letter,
I'll drill through your hands
The stone for the curse you have blamed me
With love and devotion, I'll die as you sleep
But if you could just write me out
To neverless wonder... happy will I become
Be true that this is no option,
So with sin I condemn you
Demon play, demon out!

Hang on to the glory at my right hand
Here laid to rest is our love ever longed
With truth on the shores of compassion
You seem to take premise to all of these songs

One last kiss for you
One more wish to you
Please make up your mind girl...
I'd do anything for you
One last kiss for you
One more wish to you
Please make up your mind girl...
Before I hope you die

Big fan of Coheed & Cambria. Sure, it's a little nerdy to have your concept albums tie in to a series of comics you do - but they produce some brilliant stuff.

Appreciate you saying Hevy, wish i could claim them.

I know you do a few gig reviews Devy, did you get the chance to catch Coheed while they were out? I would have loved to have seen Chris Penne- but missed it unfortunately.

I think John Mayer is a great player- and as a bass player i love listening to Pino Palladino in the John Mayer Trio stuff. He doesn't deserve the bad rap his getting here, but you got to expect that when most in the forum would prefer a good metal shred over a bluesy solo you'd expect from Mayer.

With that said, I listen to alot of Mayers stuff and think 'Clapton' (who obviously grabbed a lot of who he is from guys like Muddy Waters etc). The tone i hear in Mayer's 'neon' i hear in Claptons 'wonderful tonight' and countless others.

Where as I feel that Eddie Van Halen has really formed his own style, and even his tone was quite revolutionary. You hear him play and you know straight away.

So you have Van Halen who formed his own sound, and Clapton and Mayer who are very good at what they do but took a lot from there predecessors. For mine the latter 2 are better song writers, but thats personal opinion.

Oh and Chris, give me the tone in coheeds 'the final cut' anyday.

It's Fall Out Boy with John Mayer doing some guest work on guitar.

I find the comment of 'amateurish' amusing given that the guy delivering it is, as a guitarist, rated as one of the best active guitarists in the world these days by those within the industry.

Dont care who rates him, if you listen to the EVH solo and then the attempt by (who it turns out to be) John Mayer it sounds terrible and amteurish is a perfect fit.

Didnt know it was Mayer and dont know much about his music (other than what is played on the radio) but it doesnt sound like his style would suit that solo (seriously listen to both and with a straight face say it sounds good)
