The fact Cam Smith hasn’t been in Melbourne and likely to link up north of the border, it’s highly possible Bellamy stays in VIC. Can’t see him just walking away from the machine he has built, especially with Smith bailing. Just doesn’t seem like him... hope I’m wrong

If we don't get him I prefer he stay with Storm, instead of going to Broncs

Cam Smith and Bellamy are the lynchpin to the club’s success - losing both at once would be a disaster regarding everything going forward - recruitment, sponsors and general confidence of the club.
Whether one likes Cam Smith or not, he and the coach are winners, hard to replace

For me that’s life. Every club should go through the cycle. They have been immune to it their whole existence. Stuff them I say.

Agreed, people putting way too much into the Storm mythology...every other club has to deal with turnover, arguably no club has had continuity to the extent that Melbourne has..but last year showed they can turn anything to gold...Hughes and Papenheuzen were shite just the season prior, world beaters now. They'll be fine post-Smith, Harry Grant was stunning all year for Wests and and in Origin, and that team knows how to play. Melb don't sign a dumbass coach and Bellamy will help find a good replacement.. as much as I'd love for them to slip down the ladder I reckon they're sorted for a long time yet

Storm don't do that cyclical "premiership window" or "rebuild" stuff. The standards set there just doesn't spit out shit.

The NRL could never afford to have a Melbourne side not be competitive. Anyone who thinks they have just been that good by accident for so long are kidding themselves.

Yes they have had good player and coaches but has anyone ever wondered why?

They're not losing them both at once though. Smith is gone, Bellamy is still there.

Goblin,
There is now a example of this in NHL they bought a team in From Las Vegas like 3-4 years made sure they had qualify players strong from start, as they knew if failed no fans.
Melbourne they have done the same question has to be if for 5 years they were to miss finals what do there crowds look like

Yep, I go to bleak city regulalry and the complete and utter lack of interest in what could be argued is one of the best teams assembled over a long period of time is painfully obvious.

I think it was the year before last I was there at the start of finals and the Thursday or Friday paper it was 7 pages back before any mention of NRL and that was a small snippet. And the Storm were playing that weekend.

An unsuccesful onfield team would be disastrous.

Have they produced a local junior from Vic yet?

Was Mahe Fonua one?

I thought he might have been the first (and only?)

Any Melbourne junior is part of QLD I assume for origin lol
Actually the two most notable Victorian born players to play SOO were New South Welshman, Timana Tahu and Peter Wallace. Obviously they didn't come through the Storm systems but nevertheless NSW can claim rights on that one
