Ben Hunt Takes Responsibility for Dragons Woes

Personally I think Hunt should be our half, he is more effective in that position and looks far happier in that role...at times at hooker whilst he tries he looks disinterest...hes more value to the team than just a ball distributor from dummy half......if you ask him thats where he wants to play.....having said that he needs a better option in Norman who most times is to casual and ineffective ....there's a lot of talk re beefing up our forwards and thats true but for mine the position that needs priority is 5/8
So do you think a Clune 7 and 6 Hunt halves combination would be better. I say this because Hunt was not a good half and did not steer the team well. At one point in time there were call to switch 6 and 7 around by having Norman steer the team and Hunt be the running five-eighth.

I believe we have Norman under contract for one more season and so, if we can't off-load him, we need to find a place for him or drop a very expensive player to reserve grade.

There are rumours that Brisbane are after an experience five-eighth, I just hope that Griffin can sell them the idea of taking Norman; even if it ment Norman for Bird. Like Norman, Bird has only one year left on his contract and might just try that little bit harder looking for an extension. If Bird is for some reason unavailable during the season, Feagai can replace him.

Fair point Possm, however, if you were the Broncos and had a choice of Foran or Norman, which one would you take?

Well if I were the Coach of the Broncos, given the dire salary cap circumstance I find myself in and given the performance of my halves this year I would be trying to off-load my deadwood and it fit meant having Norman for a year, I'd say see you later Bird.

On the Dragons side of things, if Griffin thinks he can set Norman alight and get the best out of him, of course leave the Broncos stuck with Bird. But if he thinks it is a lost cause then why not try with Bird. Sometimes a change is as good as a holiday and maybe with a change of clubs, Bird will fire under Griffin.

If we did get Bird, I'd play him at left centre with Ramsey playing outside on the left wing, it would be a great start for Ramsey's first grade career. At least Bird know how to draw and pass or put his winger through to score.

However, if we are stuck with Norman, maybe it is he who should be moved to left centre.

Just watched Billy's Breakdown RD 18 re The Dragons and TBH it was actually very good.

Watching the Ben Hunt highlight real associated with the interview just shows how much we haven't got out of him in the 7 jumper and clearly demonstrated how appalling our game plans have been.

Hopefully Hook can reignite that style of play for Hunt and if so our side will benefit greatly.

Agree, I think he can reignite it because both Hunt and Griffin need for it to work! Our game plans have been appalling and the lack of imagination and creativity certainly hasn’t assisted the type of halves we’ve recruited. They’ve (game plans) been built around safety first block play, low percentage football which includes no second phase, desire for low mistakes, hardly any offloads, with the hope that if that platform was laid down, then it’s over to the ‘rich recruits’ to do their bit “IF” any opportunities presents themselves. That approach doesn’t compliment our instinct type halves at all.

...rather, than looking how best the game plan could be structured to compliment and get the best out of our recruit’s talents and strengths. Hope he can do it; reckon he will!

Senior players like Hunt and Norman should be having a considerable input into game plans not just the coach
so they play to their strengths and enjoy their footy

I doubt this was happening with the peanut

Hopefully Hook can get more out of these guys and if he cant give them the bullet to CC or out of here altogether
If they cant do the job and are on the outer then they want to leave and its them asking for a release
we will be rid Norman after next year anyway and I think Hunt tries hard but with wrong game plan

We have to be mindful he is a conservative old style coach, so i cant see any razzle dazzle footy coming but hopefully a lot better than what the Peanut and Deano team dish up

The Clune 7 and Hunt 6 could fit Poss ....it may be worth a shot I guess.....as for Hunt I agree hes never fired at 7 but then again who has fired under the McGregor fiasco....Im certain of one thing as Ive mentioned ad nauseam, if McIness isnt moved back to his rightful position as hooker then it wont be just our halve pairing that Griffin will have to deal with because he will be busted before to much longer....as for Norman it may well be the case if he doesnt get his arse into gear and show some more urgency for 80 mins then he may be Hooked (no pun intended) to reserves...expensive yes but Id sooner an over paid player in the lower grade than an expensive one in 1st grade that on most occassions delivers sfa.
And to close I think its wishful thinking that The Donkeys would wont to pick Norman up.....
