I don't think it's that. I think it's a case that he had a contract for $1M that he walked away from, and therefore that's his current worth for 2025 in terms of the salary cap. Ben Hunt has screwed himself by taking far too much money from St George last contract. Not many clubs will have a spare million in their salary cap for a player with his shelf life and use-by date.
I am sure he will end up somewhere but this just goes to show his real value. He will be expecting too much coin, just as he always has. Not a big time club player at all.
