Benji Marshall overrated?

Absolutely. People seem to remember his one fluke flick pass once every 5-6 games and forget his 20 bloopers, most overrated player I think Ive ever seen.

It takes a truly great player to have a knock on overlooked and called an attempted drop goal..................
Nevermind it was to the left of the sticks and would have needed to undertake trajectories and turns not mathematically possible in that space to get over the sticks.

week to week he is over-rated because he makes so many poor mistakes and bad decisions but there is no question he is one of a kind and can do things in this game no can, has done and maybe no one will do again.

Simply can't tackle. Didn't want to know about Tony Williams this morning, for Thurston's try, he knew Thurston was covered inside, and was always going to pass to Williams, but he didn't want to go near him.

There are a heap of halves in the NRL as bad or worse. Thurston or Lockyer wouldn't have made those tackles either. The real issue is, why was he marking up on Tony Williams without a support defender within 5 metres either side of him? Recipe for disaster.

Marshall makes a lot of mistakes because he asks more questions of the defense and tries more than any other player in the comp. Give me a player who tries stuff over generic place-holder number 35234324 any day.

I wouldn't trade him for any other pivot in the comp.

Needs a more controlling half but the lack of one has made his game at club level far more consistent.

Comparison to Locky are a bit unfair because of the experience he carries with him and being able to find your feet in first grade with some of the best halves steering the ship for you while at fullback is a different boat to the way Benji has developed.

I wouldn't call him over-rated, it's just the wankfest that's annoying.

You won't hear squat from commentators when he f**ks up. But he can do the most minute thing & he'll get all the credit every week. Example: Marshall throws a simple pass to Florence, Florence runs it, draws two players, & set up Fai Fai Loa....... yet "Brilliant from Benji Marshall!". Same thing happened with the Hayne wank-fest of 09/10.

That said, Marshall has numpties like Lui/Moltzen/Miller to work with, so he's carrying the team.

Foran needs to stop being in awe of Marshall at International level & take some control.

Of course he's over rated which doesn't make him a bad player. Because pelicans like Gould or Voss rate him as God's second son who shits gold and pisses diamonds any time he plays an ordinary game or has an ordinary play this stuff will come up. Benji's biggest problem (apart from his little boy's name) is his inconsistency. You want your top half to play at least a 7/10 game every week, with the odd 5/10 game and 8-9/10 games when the big matches come. Benji still swings too dramatically between 3/10 games and 8/10 games.

I have Thurston andthe Melbourne wanker twins above him fo sho bro.

I think he struggles at rep level as he is a very spasmodic and instictive player, with rep squads theyre together for only short periods at a stretch.....with his club footy even though his team mates dunno what hes doing they have more idea than his kiwi counterparts do...

Ulysses you do know you can drop kick for field position, it doesnt have to be a field goa attempt, but dont let your ignorance stop your bleating

Sure he makes some errors but he does things that no other player is capable of doing.
Benji is a genius.

I still think back to some of his plays in the finals the past two years and think if he played that little bit smarter the Tigers might have won another comp. But if he didn't play so crazy would they have made it that far? Who knows...

I'd love for Kelly to develop into half the attacking player Benji is.

He may attract too much hyperbolic praise from time to time but he is clearly in the top 10 players in the world and has been for his whole career. He's in a bit of a down period this year but this happens to all players from time to time.

I wouldn't trade him for any two players currently drawing breath.

He lights up a game like no one else can.
So which two players from the Union World Cup........

I am learning things about Rugby League. Obviously the most valuable attribute is never to make a mistake, or try anything that has even a poofteenth of a percent risk about it. Therefore, Martin Lang was the best player of all time.

Considering all things - age, talent, experience etc, if you put every player on the open market for a 5 year contract, Benji would emerge as the top earner.

I rate Benji very highly.

As an allround footballer he is fantastic.

Great player. Exciting to watch. Fans love him. Team mates love. Other players respect him. He is reasonably articulate. Loves the game. Is a good role model. Well presented and a generally good person. The game can be very proud to have him in its ranks.

Top of the NRL in try assists and near the top in line break assists. Pretty good for a person who supposedly plays 5 minutes a game.
But he had a bad game, so that doesn't count apparently. Only the error count does, which often has one Johnathan Thurston not too far from the top. If your a half you touch the ball often. If your Benji Marshall, you touch the ball very often, so he's likely to make more mistakes.
