Trade Benji for Hannant. Hannant wants out, is big, runs hard and tackles. Just what saints need. Saints have an out with Tigers compo requests so use it to get Hannant.

Benji unlikely to make debut against Eels

Steve Price is likely to resist the temptation to make Benji Marshall the cure-all to the Dragons woes, holding him back from a St George Illawarra debut against Parramatta on Saturday.

Only moments after Marshall stepped on the training paddock in his first hitout with the Dragons, Price said he would wait as long as possible before making a call on Marshall’s availability against the Eels.
‘‘I don’t think I’ll be naming Benji, not at the moment,’’ Price said. ‘‘I thought he trained really well [on Tuesday], but it’s still a long week and there’s a few things we need to tick off before we actually get down that path.
‘‘I can’t give a definite answer whether he’ll be in the Cutters or he’ll be playing against Parramatta. It’s still a little bit early to tell.
‘‘We’ll make a call as we go in the coming days.’’
Marshall was the last to leave the training paddock as his new teammates licked their wounds after an embarrassing loss to the table-topping Bulldogs on Sunday.
He engaged in a long discussion with St George Illawarra’s premiership-winning halfback Ben Hornby, a member of the Dragons’ coaching staff, before consulting Price and his assistant Paul McGregor.
Price said he had no issues with Marshall’s contract being registered with the NRL as the Tigers continue to wrangle over a compensation fee from the Dragons.
‘‘I’m sure that will be fixed up,’’ Price said. ‘‘It’s not an issue whatsoever and it’s just a matter of making sure he’s right and ready to go with the kilometres in his legs ... and he understands the structures and systems in place.’’
The Dragons will name their team to face the Eels on Tuesday afternoon.

"... and he understands the structures and systems in place"

What structures and systems might they be? What locker he hangs his jersey and where to park his car? I hope Benji doesn't get our structures and systems cause they are resulting in our team playing like crap and individuals performances getting worse.

Last year Dugan arrived and was dangerous every game. After one off season to properly learn Dragons Footy and he has lost the edge.

Hope PRICE gave him his DRAGONS FOOTY handbook to take home with him, and also gave him the drum on how to talk crap that actually means nothing on the footy show.

Marshall has plenty to offer club: Creagh

By ADAM PENGILLY and MITCH JENNINGS

RUGBY LEAGUE

They've carved out a reputation as the second-chance saloon specialists, enough to convince Dragons skipper Ben Creagh that Benji Marshall can help turn around St George Illawarra's flagging fortunes.
Joining a list that has included Nathan Fien, Mark Gasnier and Josh Dugan in recent seasons, the Dragons rolled out their latest mid-season acquisition in Wollongong on Tuesday.
Fien's switch from the Warriors mid-way through 2009 helped spur Wayne Bennett's side to the minor premiership while Gasnier aided the Dragons in breaking their 31-year title drought after he fled rugby union in 2010.
St George Illawarra lifted Dugan off the scrapheap last season as he vaulted to State Of Origin honours shortly after, and Marshall's signature created a similar buzz.
Creagh warned his teammates not to expect Marshall to be the cure-all for their wretched form but knows what an astute signing the former Tiger could be.
"Most mid-season signings have played pretty well for us," Creagh said. "We had Nathan Fien in 2009 and we had Gaz [Gasnier] in 2010.
"Most of those buys have turned out pretty well with players who wanted to prove something.
"Some of them had left rugby league [and] come back, some had gone to other teams looking for an opportunity and seem to have a lot to prove and that's great.
"They're highly driven, motivated people like Benji is and that's really good for the team.
"I don't know if he's the answer to all our problems but it's nice to have a player like that," Creagh said.
Marshall's inclusion in a Dragons backline already boasting a wealth of attacking talent is a mouth-watering one for Red V fans.
When he does make his debut it's likely to be alongside New Zealand internationals Jason Nightingale and Gerard Beale, with halves partner Gareth Widdop a fully fledged English international.
"He's a special player and there's a certain aura about him that players like to be around," Beale said.
"For him to be here it's certainly going to add an extra dimension and give the players a lot of confidence as well.
"It's going to be exciting when he gets to put on the Red V."
Meanwhile, coach Steve Price resisted the urge to make wholesale changes for the match with Parramatta with Mike Cooper the only player missing from the side that was flogged 38-6 by the Bulldogs last week. He has a minor arm injury.
Will Matthews comes into the 17 for Cooper on the interchange bench while Leeson Ah Mau was promoted to the starting lineup and veteran prop Dan Hunt shifted to the bench.
Young-gun Jack de Belin will make his 50th appearance for the Dragons from the bench.
Nightingale was named on the wing after he missed the loss to the Bulldogs with a knee injury but Price said the New Zealand international was only an "outside chance" of playing.

Is Marshall going to have the same effect as Mark Gasnier did to the Dragons.

Gasnier came and signed for heaps while players like Costigan, Smith, etc were let go.

Marshall coming is leading to Morris and Merrin going.

Why bring this up around Benji? what about Dugan? He Is in the same boat. Even Gareth Widdop didn't play as well as he is getting paid. You would have thought someone on 650k would have done a bit more for our season considering he didn't have to change codes mid-year.

Agree. Dugan playing at centre is a far worse waste of money than Marshall. If he was to get back to fullback however...

I dont think Marshall is our issue. Far from it.

The reason our top 3 players may be going is due to an incompetent CEO, lazy board and dislike of Mary who has been coaching first grade for 5 minutes but is acting as if he is Wayne Bennett.

I always wondered why Bennett gave Mary the punt when he took over in 2009....now we know.

The same reason he let Josh Morris go

I don't know why people are saying we paid so much for Marshall. Isn't his contract worth $330k to $350k a year. I say thats average for a half these days.

No
It was 1.1 million over 2.5 years... Apparently broken up the following way..
2014 100k
2015 500k
2016 500k

Hence part of our salary cap dramas for 2015, finding 500k that was unplanned and already spent on existing players

It's convenient to bash Benji.
He was instrumental in many of our scoring opportunities, got better with each game ,but when he makes an error, out come the knives.
