WTF, no wonder we haven't been able to sign any big name players when we are still paying out Sheens, Gibbs, Fifita, Heino, Payten and Mckinnon!
Then add Tiquiri to this mess and no f**king wonder they showed Humpty the door.

It's hard to believe that a professional football club has even survived with some of the disgraceful decisions that have been made at the top. Cannot believe that we are still paying Payten and McKinnon in this years cap... Absolute madness.
Seems like the new guy is making the right calls though. Maybe we can look forward to being reasonably successful in 3 or 4 years time.

Is this situation really surprising though?

The club is always under salary cap pressure with one of the worst squads in the comp.

Obviously a chunk of our cap is going on paying players that are no longer there.

We would be the worst managed club by the length of the straight.

Mayer needs to be appointed long term this is what's happened since he was appointed.

McDonnell Demoted, Looks like a settlement with Sheens is imminent, not extending Benji, telling Blair he can leave, looking to extend Moses & Brooks until 2017.

I agree with every decision made in recent times problem is look at the decisions made over the last 18 months: Release Ellis, Fifita, Ryan, Hino, Gibbs and sign Anasta, Blair, Pettybourne & Thompson. Sack Sheens and still pay him + replace him with a rookie coach in the NRL with a dud squad.

In order to make our squad worse we are paying salaries to players no longer with us. Its bad management however, Mayer can sort this mess out problem is it will take 3 years. We wont be a contending side until 2016.

Sheens, Gibbs, Fifita, Heighington, Payton & McKinnon.
Does Ellis get added to that list as well?
Head still spinning about Payton and McKinnon.
Keystone Cops would do a better job running the tigers than the rabble present at the moment.

Back to the thread topic.

One thing that I have noticed is that whilst the majority come on here and agree that Benji is not worth it and hasn't been putting in of late plus he makes terrible last tackle choices, he can't kick in general play, he can't tackle etc etc.

The new boss even if in an acting role at present, can see what's going on, can see what others have been seeing and is leading from the front.

Off thread now ;-)
The Sheens & Humphreys era is well and truly over and that is a very good, positive, great, fantastic thing going forward for the Tigers.

Tough one with Benji. So good for so long. Very important player in the early meregr years. But he was always an individualistic player. As he has got slower he has moved more to a team orientated player. And that's not his game. He is a $300 - $400k/year player living on reputation to command double that salary in his next contract. I just don't see it happening. His best hope would haven been the Panthers but Gould jumped the gun and signed Soward. Benji is going to have to take a huge pay cut or move to England. Union doesn't want him and no NRL clubs would even consider him at his asking price.

This just confirms that the clowns were running the circus. At least we can now move forward. The position or rabble the club is in now reminds me of the early 2000's before we emerged to claim the 05 title.

I wouldn't even pay him $200k at the moment

With up to at least 6 former players still benefitting from our salary cap the structure of our future contracts need to be reviewed and addressed.A player like Robbie you can understand locking him in long term, average players not so much, maybe 2 year contracts at best with an option in the clubs favour. What ever happens better attention and planning is vital so the shit we are in now doesn't repeat itself.

Good news in this article.
Blair shopped around.
Benji no extension.
Seens settlement.
Brooks and Moses extensions.

We are moving forward.

Music to my ears, the curtains are finally coming down on the Sheens era and the hard work of cleaning up the shambles he left is now starting to get some momentum. We now have a CEO (acting) and a head coach who are working together to getb this club back on track

Gee, you have only to watch five minutes of Luke Brooks to see he is a quality footballer.
A leader and an organiser. Very much like DCE.

Nobody will touch Blair if we are only putting in 100k
He isn't worth 400k+ to anyone else.

Big big f**k up.

Warriors or Storm are a fit in theory for 300K with Blair. Penriff maybe.

Drop Benji to reserves and he will walk to rugby with us not having to pay out his contract next year. His profile would not handle threat of a year out of spotlight in reggies. And fact is he deserves to be in reggies.

Average players get low money and short contracts because they have proven to be average. Anyone with some potential or match winning ability gets a better deal. And if you want them you have to match that or have something extra to offer.

Even young players get offered stupid money and 4 year deals when they are good - have a look at David Klemmer, signed a million dollar deal before his debut.

Basically if you want to offer deals of 2 years or less then you will only get the players with the least potential and lowest ceiling. I think the tigers need a bit more than that.

Explain the likes of Blair,Moltzen,Reddy etc and every other dumb ass contract thats working against us being competitive, not to mention the players we are still forking out for at other clubs, finally have a look at where we are on the table, our current system is not working, change is required.
