Problem is he has been stating this for years. His running game has gone backwards but he still makes too many mistakes and is too inconsistent.

He just got married and is balls deep in that fine thing.
Brain goes to mush with that as a distraction.

On NRL.com.au Benji has been interviewed and said among other things;

"My job is to provide attack and direction to the team and that hasn't really happened this year. I don't really know what to put it down to."

A collection of Marshall's flick passes could fill a highlights reel of their own, but the 28-year-old said he needs to focus less on the spectacular and get back to basics.

Well I say "No shit Sherlock."

I feel like we have been hearing that same speech from Benji for years now, do we really believe it anymore ?

I agree with the whole Benji can't perform if the forwards aren't doing their job but I still think Benji needs a massive reality check !!! I thought the nz captaincy being taken from him might have done that but it hasn't. The writing is truly on the wall for him to miss out on a starting spot I'm the test team later this year, if I was a selector there is no way I'd be dropping Johnson or Foran to make way for him... Maybe then he will realise he needs to seriously lift !!! I can't believe we are gonna throw a massive long term contract at him. I wouldn't pay half the figure being reported at the moment. When is the last time he did something good ? When is the last time he had you on the edge of your seat with a grin on your face loving the fact he played for your team ? I can't even remember such a time.

I am a supporter of resigning however, 3 years with an option in WT favour for another 2. 5 years is too long we need Benji to star and mentor Sironen, Brooks and Moses (assuming the wraps on these 3 are warranted). You cant be paying $800k for the last 2 years when he is 33-34 if they do this honestly our club has lost the plot and we are throwing our hands in the air and admitting we cant attract any to play for us.

Play Marshall at outside centre and see how he goes

Unlike others I think this would be a great thing. Leaves the door open for Siro, Brooks & Moses in the future. Also, takes some pressure off Benji and may allow him to play open free flowing footy

We get it... you have a hard on for Benji's missus... farkin hell every post from you

Drop in form came around the same time she came on the scene.

Women have never ruined a sportsmans career, never.
As someone else said, he gets paid and has his media career to look forward to.

I can't see Sirro staying in the halves for long, given the halves in NYC coming through, both of whom are better.

I just hope both those kids enter the team at the same time, not a few weeks apart.

Don't go breaking up a partnership that works well.

I'd also be a bit sceptical about bringing Brooks in just yet. I'd leave him til next year. You want a kid to be playing in a side thats confident, otherwise he'll end up following the same path as Miller.

If necessary drop Blair if he is not performing.

If?

serious, when he has he actually performed to a level at the Tigers where you thought "Now I see why this guy is a test player and worth 500k a year"

Benji talking about how he has to step up means he's going to be involved in more shit plays.

I see the issue with Benji here quite similar to one the Sharks have with Gallen at times.

Sometimes they get in the way and demand the ball too much, to the teams detriment.

It's no fluke that the Sharks won on the weekend without Gallen on the field. This year he's been trying to play like a five eighth, and has been getting the ball far too much.

Benji has been trying to play like a halfback, or possibly even trying to compete with Farah to see who is the best at creating tries, again, to the detriment of the team.

If Benji is putting on weight/mass, then he could possibly move to centre in a few years time, get less ball and make him a threat again, further out wide.

His defence is only dodgy on the left, so play him on the right.

Benji, put him on a media ban, stop the constant press releases, work his butt off and than tell him that contract talks will begin when he starts putting a string of good games together and if he wants out, show him the door

Really how can we expect Benji to compete when he is not fit,toe injury aside this guy has been taking the easy option concerning his fitness for to long. When your young its easier to get away with it but as you get older it takes more discipline and dedication to keep fit something Benji has failed to do.

Kent makes a good point. If these kids coming through are as good as we are led to believe they are not going to hang around waiting for Benji to retire. This 5 year contract Benji wants is a real danger to us....

Lawrence: Benji worth every cent...

http://www.news.com.au/sport/nrl/be...e-chris-lawrence/story-fndv39ms-1226638692453

BENJI Marshall has lost his confidence, his Test captaincy and even the strength in his big toe, but the Wests Tigers playmaker still commands the utmost respect of his teammates.
Marshall, who will play his second game following a turf toe injury against Cronulla at Allianz Stadium on Friday, put his hand up this week and accepted much of the Tigers' woes this season.
It was a stunning admission from the club's highest-profile player, who is deep in negotiations with a view to signing a deal that would make the 28-year-old a Tiger for life.
Marshall is reportedly close to inking an upgrade of his current contract, which ends at the end of next season, which would keep him at the Tigers on a five-year deal worth $4 million.
The hefty price tag, and Marshall's indifferent form, led to some sections of the rugby league world questioning whether the former New Zealand skipper is still deserving of such a contract.

"He's worth every cent to us,'' Tigers centre Chris Lawrence said.
Marshall has been critical of his own form in 2013, but Lawrence said once he returns to the peak of his powers there won't be a person in the game who thinks he isn't worth the money.
"By his own admission he probably hasn't had the greatest 12 months,'' Lawrence said.
"But a lot of that is probably not just put on his shoulders but on the rest of the team as well.

"As a team we haven't performed well in the last 12 months.
"At times he might have been trying to try too hard and forgetting what his role in the team is.
"I'm sure he'll get back to his best form and when he does a lot of people will change their minds and be saying he's worth every cent.''
Marshall's likely re-signing follows on from skipper Robbie Farah committing long-term to the club, an indication Lawrence believes the Tigers are well set for the rest of their careers.
"Having Robbie sign basically for the rest of his career was a massive boost for us, knowing he's going to retire a Tiger,'' he said.
"But having that stability within the halves is just as important.
"In any club you need to know and have long-term plans for your halves, so to have Benji potentially re-sign would be great for the club.''
Glad the overpaid and overrated are now talking each other up in the media...

Next we will have Blair talking about extending Moltzen's contract through to 2020...
