The ball is going to be in the NRL's court as far as deciding his market value for the salary cap. I doubt that anyone will be able to sign him for the $62,000 the newspapers are suggesting...he's still a marquee player despite recent form and his few months in exile.

Maybe the argument can be made that he's worth little as it's a second-chance style contract and he's a bit of a mystery...but I dunno if that will fly with the auditors. Stabbing in the dark, my guess is he'll be on no less that $200k or so...

I have a couple of minor niggling concerns. Def want him in the BWB but Benji loves space. Our forwards when on song will deliver that to him. Goodo, however, will the backs respond accordingly? May need to teach a few to run the Benji lines but that said Beau and Blakey boy should know how. Second issue draws on DJ's comments. How will Toddy slot into this deal? He was horrible at 7 (round 1 and 2 2012). Would he be happy being a 7 or sharing the playmaker role? Now I know this is a bit fluffy and Benji would be a boon, but Toddy showed faith in us (we did in him as well) by signing for 5 years when we desperately needed help. Owe him consideration for that. What's Gals views? In my view this could be a quantum change (maybe the one we've been looking for) that changes the club for the good. But if he arrives like a cyclone we'd have disaster.

I find this comment interesting.

Not only what would he be commanding, but where are they plucking the amount from? Do his management go on form from last season? If so surely the ball would be in the clubs court and not benji's

Who ever mentioned the Todd Carney first contract with us is a genius.

I am hearing again that its a done deal with us. The original source is good but its still second hand info. If it is true we need to get it done asap before the season is over for us.

Whoever plays at 7 or 6 doesn't appear to be super important in our side as we play a half on each side of the field, but there seems to be some kind of structure there as to who dictates the play. We'd struggle having two 'flair' players either side of the ruck, I can imagine a lot of overcalling going on....add Gal's insistence on getting the ball too and we could end up being a structureless clusterf**k.

Would take a good, smart, confident, dominant, respected coach to funnel all that turmoil into a working structure... like Peter Sharp. Ahem.

Tbh, could be very unsettling. Surely it would mean moving Gordon or Robbo. Benji would want a first grade spot. If he didn't get one , the press would be all over us again. Surely FB is the option.

My back line

1 Marshall
2 Gordon
3 Feki
4 Leutele
5 Ryan
6 Carney
7 Robson.

Opens up another area for opposition to target in defence. Jeez with his dodgy shoulders thought he was gone years ago. Would only take on a cheap 2 year deal. He could be a decent fit at the Dragons with Widdop at 7 and Dugan at 1. Hope not.

No time to read 125 posts but my 2 cents...
Sign Benji.
Fullback Benji
Centre flash
5 eight Bronski beat haircut kid
7 Robbo

For mine it would be a major coup for the sharks..Benji is a gifted player..

I'd go for benj at 7, robbo at 9. Could probably have benj on the bench to start, move robbo to 9 to try it out. Todd and Gordon to stay where they are.

Gordon has been a bit down in form, but the bloke has it him. I reckon he'd go good in a good side.

I dont think Benji will be ruffling big Gal's feathers.
You'd wanna have some pretty big wheels to be throwing your weight around in Gal's kingdom.

Wasn't round 1 & 2 2012 Todd's first 2 games at the club? Understandable he wouldn't look good if that's the case. I think 7 will suit Todd better than 6 at this time at least because that man is deadset broken. He can defend on the left with Wade Graham in the Beau Scott, Tony Carroll type role. Minder.

Gal's view? Do we think the club would even talk to Benji without the Pope's blessing? I don't.

Connect the dots........................
Get a good pay from them this year, work out a deal for next year.
Who is working for them for this year only?
Or maybe the Salford fella who is negotiating may be the same fella who is back here next year?
Connect the dots......................

Oh, them dots is connected man. LOL

Heaven forbid we let a busted player actually heal properly.

Which would be an option if we scored Benji.

Our rehab of players is f**king horrendous. Just like everything else at our club.

I like the idea of Benji at FB, Gordon in the centres... I'm still not a fan of Benji and TC as halves
