Hodgson is 30 from memory. Id be definitely in favor of a defensive move to fullback for Benji.

He will still have to tackle at fullback, bring back kick returns and be exposed to more tackles on him then 5/8.

He'd make far less tackles, which is where the problem is, all 4 dislocations happened when he was defending in the front line, usually against much bigger opponents.

Should definitely move to fullback.

Not only will he make less tackles, I think it's fair to say that 1 on 1 tackles involves less chance for injury than gang tackles.

Benji will be back. You can quote me on it.

You tackle in a different stlye at fullback than in the line.

You are more likely to have moer bodies come at diffeernt angles, including team mates, and increase the risk of hyper-extension and dislocation.

Many fullbacks have to line themselves up to put a shoulder in the stomach, and very little torsional extension.. that's if they haven't offloaded to a supporting player and you don't need to make the tackle anyway..

The greater risk at fullback comes from desperate lunging tackles.

MARSHALL & MULLEN INJURY UPDATE
4:04pm Monday 7 May 2007

http://www.leagueunlimited.com/article.php?newsid=13643

Wests Tigers star Benji Marshall will have to wait until Wednesday to find out whether his NRL season has come to another premature end due to a shoulder injury.

Marshall had a scan done on his right shoulder in Sydney today, but must wait two days until receiving the results. He will meet with club doctor Donald Kuah and shoulder specialist Dr Des Bokor on Wednesday to discuss his results. Bokor operated on Marshall's right shoulder last season and both his two previous surgeries in 2004 (left) and 2005 (right).

Marshall lasted just five minutes in Saturday night's win over Melbourne after dislocating his shoulder in a tackle on Storm winger Israel Folau.

Meanwhile, Newcastle halfback Jarrod Mullen has been cleared of stress fractures in his right leg, but will undergo MRI scans in Sydney tomorrow to check for muscle or ligament damage.

Mullen missed yesterday's 30-16 NRL loss to the Bulldogs with calf tendonitis, but club officials feared he could have stress fractures and sent him for bone scans today. The 20-year-old NSW Origin prospect is relieved by the results and says the pain in his leg has subsided and he could be fit to play New Zealand Warriors this Saturday at EnergyAustralia Stadium.

Wests Tigers have taken the precautionary step of booking star five-eighth BENJI MARSHALL in for surgery on Thursday morning after scans revealed a fracture in his injured right shoulder.

A final decision on whether the Kiwi playmaker has an operation will be made tomorrow by club doctors, though scans have revealed no ligament damage.

MARSHALL damaged his shoulder in the opening minutes of Saturday night's NRL win over Melbourne but club officials are confident it is nowhere near as serous as the injury to the same shoulder which ruined his 2006 campaign.

Utility LIAM FULTON has been named in the number six jumper for Sunday's clash against St George Illawarra at Telstra Stadium.

NEWS ON BENJI IS POSITIVE
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Wayne Cousins
Wests Tigers Media Officer

Wests Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall may undergo surgery on Thursday but the news looks positive on his injured right shoulder.

Coach Tim Sheens revealed today that the injury was not ligament or soft tissue damage, rather bone damage at the joint.

Sheens said Wests Tigers club doctor Donald Kuah and shoulder specialist Dr Des Bokor will now consult on the CT scan on Wednesday afternoon to confirm if surgery is needed.

“The initial diagnosis is very, very positive in that the ligament has held together,’’ Sheens said.

“I am not going to elaborate any further until the doctors see the CT scan themselves. They don’t want to get any further down the track than that, other than the graft itself at both ends, which he has had done, held.

“At this stage the initial diagnosis is that he will be back this year.

“We are very pleased for Benji. We are not thinking about the team at the moment or the club or anything, we are just thinking about him.

“The way the injury happened, anyone probably would have had some shoulder damage, just how serious it was.

‘‘Because of the amount of drilling they have done, it weakened the joint, and the joint itself has had some damage, not the actual ligament.

“It is good news and bad news. People at one stage had this injury finishing Benji’s career. It is a long way from that.''

Benji broken, but no bowed

May 08, 2007

WESTS Tigers have taken the precautionary step of booking star five-eighth Benji Marshall in for surgery on Thursday morning after scans revealed a fracture in his injured right shoulder.

A final decision on whether the Kiwi playmaker has an operation will be made tomorrow when he meets club doctor Donald Kuah and his shoulder specialist Dr Des Bokor, although scans have revealed no ligament damage.

Marshall damaged his shoulder in the opening minutes of Saturday night's NRL win over Melbourne Storm, but club officials are confident it is nowhere near as serious as the injury to the same shoulder which ruined his 2006 campaign.

Tigers coach Tim Sheens said he is hopeful that the 22 year old will be able to return later in the season.

Utility Liam Fulton has been named in the number six jumper for Sunday's round nine clash against St George-Illawarra at Sydney's Telstra Stadium.

Meanwhile, centre Dean Collis has been ruled out for up to four weeks with a knee injury.

Tigers rivals the Bulldogs had worse news on their winger Matt Utai, who will miss at least 12 weeks with a compression fracture in his right leg sustained during the win over Newcastle Knights on Sunday.

Bulldogs doctor Hugh Hazard said: "An MRI scan has revealed a compression fracture of the tibia.

"Matt will wear a knee brace and he’ll be out of action for 12-plus weeks."

Great to hear the ligaments are all good. Hopefully he is back soon. If Benji can get back to 2005 form and the rest of the Wests Tigers keep improving like they have been then we will be a threat for the title this year.

Much better news...

I just had my shoulder stablisation at the end of January.

I know my bones will heal better than my ligaments.

With Benji at fullback, he will have greater freedom to attack the line like he did in 2005, and go back to taking on defenders one-on-one. He is stifled of creativity at five-eighth in his current form.

It had nothing to do with technique and everything to do with Tuiaki hitting him at an unfortunate angle.

Most people would have hurt their shoulder in such a scenario...

Look at the footage again, watch where the tigers defenders are before benji makes contact, how many players put themselves in a similar position and make the tackle how benji did. Benji has a habit of using his arms "too much" in a tackle. IMO it is his technique.
