Bennett Cut Loose By Broncos

I'm sure I heard Bennett is keen to continue after 2019 so for me its a yes. Think about it:

- We are(IMO)entering a premiership window in terms of playing squad
- Our 2010 premiership was after years of having an 'old boy' as coach who couldn't get the job done
- Bennett came in & made us contenders immediately(he has a good part of 2019 to recruit accordingly)
- 2020 is 10 years since we last won it, there is a nice symmetry given we got close in 2009 which was 10 years after our last GF appearance in 99.

Rose coloured glasses or not, to me, it makes sense.
Get your sentiment LG, but Bennett is also 10 years older and nearing 70. He did say he wanted to keep coaching but he has lost something, with out the endless pool of TPA's, money and 1 city backing the Broncos have..I dont think he can replicate what he did 10 years ago. And I heard that JD does all the attacking coaching for him. Bennett has been around a lot of changes in the game and mostly has adjusted well..but i think now the game is starting to wear him down as he gets frailer.

Sure he is 10 years older but I look at the last 4-5 rounds leading into the semis this year. Arguably Brisbane were one of the form teams leading into the finals which has to reflect on his ability turn a team around(sure, they were a dumpster fire against us but that happens). If JD is running the attack then I'd ask him to come along as part of a coaching succession plan.
As for the one team city, he didn't have those resources with us and it wasn't an impediment in any way to what he delivered.
In the right environment he would still offer plenty. I think thats us.

I suppose we agree to disagree. You could say the same about McGregor and our finals campaign. And who was the one to turn Broncos form around so suddenly. JD as was I saw taking over in half time talks or Bennett or players themselves to throw their support behind the coach. Bennett had a point to prove when he came to us and did it and I think then a better coach. Has nothing more to prove but Yes JD would be a good acquisition back to the club and on that basis I could accept him for a year if JD were groomed to take over.

This.
As soon as Bennetts name pops up as coach there is an immediate response that he will bring 2010 all over again. The fact remains that he hasnt won a premiership since then and only been to the big dance once and lost.

The game has changed and is changing almost monthly, Bennetts style isnt keeping up with it, its hence why Brisbane are letting him go. They see new blood and fresh ideas are needed in the modern game. We see this in Seibold and why Brisbane will chase him for the role.

In saying that, Bennett would make a great coaching director. A view from afar so to speak. Someone a young coach could go to or he could even step in with an idea or suggestion on a player etc. Unfortunately, the Dragons heirachy would never see that opportunity. But Gould at Penrith may do so with Ciraldo.

I feel another useless end of season review from our Low Performance Unit coming on. It will no doubt spin 2018 as another successful year when we were again May premiers and find (based on what Mary tells them) that factors beyond the coach's control contributed to the club's subsequent fall from grace. The review will gloss over Mary's obvious failings and shortcomings and anoint him as the "special one"'( a la the universally disliked Jose Mourinho at Man United). Key difference of course is that Mourinho has actually won something.

Doust, will no doubt provide the season review in braille ............
just so he won't have to say a friggin word.

Bennett won us a premiership. Great effort.

However, for the first year we went out in straight sets and the 3rd year was almost a carbon copy of this year. Great start, failure after origin and out after 2 finals games.

Great that we got 2 MPs but what is the use of it if we can't back it up and slip out the back door without putting up a fight? Results after that have been questionable in my opinion. For me, there are better options.

I read somewhere that dousty and board were rightly peed off when wayne walked out on his deal to come back to us after he left newcastle , So a red line has apparantly been drawn thru waynes name
I would go all out to bring JD back .

Good point qld redvee , I did forget about that little transgression but a bad one . You give a person your word (?) and then change your mind does indeed leave a sour taste in ones mouth - even for years after in this case .

Murdock's $1 million extra overnight offer changed his mind as Saints wouldn't match it at the last moment.
Exactly what happened with Bellamy.

We had our chance with JD and the Board went with Mary instead.

Doust and Craig Young have since met with Bennett prior to the second game between Broncos and SGI this year. So I don't think the red line idea applies.

I'd say that if Bennett does continue to coach in 2020, SGI will be in their with a better than even chance of securing his signature.

You make valid points & rightly this is one of those agree to disagree deals.

It’s more likely our board will just sh*t the bed & extend McGregor.

Yesterday, The Mole reported that SGI will extend McGregor’s tenure by a further two-years.

End of story (although there wasn’t one to begin with).

My tip is Bennett will hang up the clipboard at the end of 2019.

What the?
He won one premiership in 3.
We won 2 minor premierships.
We won the world club title
Year 3 we went down by 1 point in week 2 of the finals.

Yeahhhh, we can get anyone to match that
Not

As just stated on the news..

Bennett has asked his manager to find him another club.
If it is true and if we are interested, then I think we would be in a very good position to sign him. He could also bring Oates and Pangai with him. He would know that with the addition of those 2 players and possibly one more good outside back, we would be genuine premiership contenders.

Mary has had 4 and half years now. I think that is more than enough of a chance. I wonder or even doubt that there would be any clubs lining up to sign Mary as their first grade coach.

I would take Brownie back over Mary. I would take Hasler over Mary, I would take Maguire over Mary. We need a new coach with new fresh ideas.
