Best British team ever to play in the Australian competition

Sam Tomkins (NZ Warriors)

Joe Lydon (Easts), Ellery Hanley (Balmain), Gary Schofield (Balmain), Andy Currier (Balmain)

David Bolton (Balmain)
Tommy Bishop (Cronulla)

Malcolm Reilly (Manly)
Dick Huddart (St George), Sam Burgess (Souths)
Cliff Watson (Cronulla), Mike Stephenson (Penrith) Adrian Morley (Easts/Sydney Roosters)

Interchange: James Graham (Canterbury), George Burgess (Souths), Bill Ashurst (Penrith), Phil Clarke (Easts)

18th man: Tom Burgess (Souths),

We are just short of one specialist winger, so I put centre Andy Currier on the wing.

This team could win the competition if they were all in their 20s today.

Surely Jonathon Davies, Martin Offiah, Kevin Ward, Shaun Edwards and Phil Lowe would get a spot somewhere?

1. Joe Lydon
2. Garry Schofield
3. Jonathon Davies
4 Ellery Hanley
5 Martin Offiah

6 Shaun Edwards
7 Tommy Bishop

8 Kevin Ward
9 Mike Stephenson
10 Phil Lowe
11 Adran Morley
12 Malcolm Reilly
13 Sam Burgess

Now that is a team (and a scary pack!)

Sam Tomkins hasn't played here. You know you're struggling too when you have to name a guy who has played one season of first grade on the bench

When did Sam Tomkins play in the NRL?

Surely there have been better British players in 100 years than George Burgess and especially Tom Burgess ffs

Only Burgess that deserves to be there is Sam ATM

I could see the twins aiming up the next few years, nobody has much of an opinion on Tom but his stats from his 9 games read very well, over 100 metres per game average

genius alert.

 Short of a winger, Martin Offiah FFS.

You are correct I forget about Martin Offiah. Best winger who ever played in the NRL, bar none.

So here is the team of British players who played in an NRL/ARL/NSWRL team. This is not a team who visited Australia with the Great Britain selection. They actually played in the Australian competition.

Sam Tomkins (NZ Warriors)

Joe Lydon (Easts), Ellery Hanley (Balmain), Gary Schofield (Balmain), Martin Offiah (Easts)

My starting 13 would walk all over yours!

Revised list that includes one player who will have played by 2014.

This is not a list of players who visited with a Great Britain touring team. It is a list of players who were regular players in the Australian domestic competition.

Sam Tomkins (NZ Warriors)

Joe Lydon (Easts), Ellery Hanley (Balmain), Gary Schofield (Balmain), Martin Offiah (Easts)

David Bolton (Balmain)
Tommy Bishop (Cronulla)

Roger Millward would surely be the 5/8 in any pommy team named, whether pommies who have played in the NRL/ARL/NSWRL or the greatesr ever English team.

Remember Schofield and Hanley spent more time at Western Suburbs then Balmain.

Move Schofield to fullback.
