Best Cover Versions?

They may not be in all seriousness, but Richard Clapton's versions of "I'm Like A Bird" and "Gangsta's Paradise" off the Musical Challenge CD's are fantastic. James Reyne's two efforts ("Wuthering Heights" and "Delilah") are also superb.

The same place where the Wiggles did theirs. Fantastic covers all round from those CDs.

Have you heard Dream Theater playing the entire Master of Puppets Album live?

Yeah. MOP was ok. NOTB was nothing compared to Maiden. They did Dark Side Of The Moon and Made In Japan well though.

Redgum's version sh*ts all over this. Then again, I think The Herd only had one good song in them ("Scalops").

I saw The Herd live on Friday night up here in Brisbane. Seriously one of the best live shows I have seen in a long while.

I was only 19 was a highlight. Great cover version. See if you can download the podcast from JJJ's Hack show where they interview the Herd about their version and how it came about and also for some history on Redgum's version.

Apparently word got out that Schuman had written a song about the Vietnam War and he was in a hotel minding his own business. A bunch of serious blokes turn up...demand he get in a car and they drive him for a few hours to a warehouse. In this warehouse are a bunch of even more serious dudes. All Vietnam War vets. They get him to play the song on his guitar.

Then they ask him to play it again.

Then they drive him back to the hotel...

Also a great bit in that podcast about War vets and post traumatic stress etc

They play it better than Metallica do! Also the cover of Number of the Beast is better than Iron Maiden do imo.

I wouldnt go that far, the music is performed sublime but the vocals are utter shyte, although I wouldnt expect la Brie to be able to pull those vocals off.

I'm going to throw one in from left field here:

Crowded House's cover of She's Not There. Not to mention their live renditions of Throw Your Arms Around Me
