'clutch player' yet another stupid term from the NFL the commentators will adopt this year. Why can't we try to keep rugby league as an Australian game. Even the term 'game breaker' comes from the NFL.

welcome to read an alternative term from you ...

Who gives a fuark, the terms are applicable to rugby league, I prefer it more then the Aussie "slang" dribble.

I would hate to have Benji or Farrah as clutch players, who can forget last years semi against the warriors ?up with 5 to go 30m out and they ran it on the last.
Best clutch goal kicker by a mile is soward, his kicking in origin, the 2010 gf and last years broncos semi was best since halligan.

To me a clutch player is a player that nails something under pressure hence why the Marshall suggestion is laughable. Two GF qualifiers in a row (season 2010 and 2011) he had the game in the balance and took the wrong option.

Soward is my pick.

2010 GF Qualifier - Nails a 35m FG goal to make it 13-12.

2011 Semi - Had a kick wide out to tie the game on fulltime infront of a Broncos crowd. Nailed it.

2011 Origin - Game precariously placed, takes the line on and beats 3 QLD defenders before giving it to Minichiello for the match sealing try.

3 pressure cooker scenarios. Sandow has a long way to go as well. Souths don't know what a pressure situation is like.

It'll be interesting to see how the Eels use Hayne & Sandow, especially when the game's in the balance.

Surprised people are saying Sandow. He lost a few games for Souths this year by getting too cocky too early. He won them more than he lost though. I'd have to say Thurston. I don't think Cameron Smith has had to win the Storm that many close games.

How many times has Slater been the recipient of the ball and then burst through to win Origins and International games. However I would tend to think it was the man playing him the ball that deserves the kudos for spotting him. That means with Lockyer gone that Smith or Thurston are the men.

But every great play maker needs a good finisher so maybe the "go to combo" would be a better question.

I would throw Bowen into that mix too.. he has sparked the cowboys back into a game many times.

I also agree Johnson will be topping that list in the near future.
