Marshall has won World Cups and Four Nations, even a premiership. Sandow had 80 minutes last season in Round 26 to help his side to the finals....Sandow and his team were absent when the pressure was applied. If Sandow was playing for my life, I would write my will.

Nothing funnier than a Souths flogging. Luckily it is a weekly episodic thing when the NRL season starts.

May not be the best player but Peter Wallace is fairly handy in the clutch

Round 3 2007 vs. Brisbane - Golden point 40m field goal
Round 1 2009 vs. Cowboys - Dead lock breaking field goal
Round 14 2011 vs. Canberra - Golden point field goal
Round 22 2011 vs. Warriors - Dead lock breaking field goal

And that's just off the top of my head.

JT would be my pick though - especially when it comes to the rep. arena. He doesn't get enough credit for his work with Queensland. Inglis has had his game breaking moments too.

There's no going past Thurston for this title right now.

With so many young, and potentially great halves coming up the ranks this will be an interesting topic in a couple of years time.

Becomming a clutch player in those 'pressurecooker' situations takes years to truly become accustomed to.

I was extremely impressed by DCEs composure in years gone by, so I'm very interested to see how he goes this year under a new coach.

The thread isn't about a pressure game, it's about pressure situations when the game is in the balance. Souths were down & out early on in that round 26 game. Sandow hasn't played internationals, SOO or even NRL finals, but he can make or break a team's fortunes.

No doubt Marshall can be one of the NRL's best in the clutch, but as Tim Sheens said about the way the Tigers play, "they keep me young, but they make me old".

Thurston easily my pick at the moment. DCE will probably be that type of player aswell. I'd say best in the future will be Shaun Johnson but I might be biased (probably) but he did set up the game winning play in the tigers and storm matches and sparked our comeback in the GF setting up both tries and almost another. Benji is at his best when the game isn't in the clutch

CLUTCH PLAYER? WTF is a CLUTCH player? Why not a f*cing brake or accellerator player? Americanisms - on Australia day.

Gamebreakers. Probably Campo - has gotten the Raiders into the finals twice and without him they are as f*cked as grashoppers on the windscreen of a Kenworth. Just about every half or pivot is probably their clubs best gamebreaker. Luke Burt on the wing is great for us in that role.

But Clutch players? Seriously.......................

If I heard the gimps on Nein refer to a clutch player my first thought would be that it is one of the players that they like to have a wank over.... ie Idris or Benji

I drive and prefer an automatic. They move into an extra gear by themselves when the situation calls for it.

Best 'clutch' player, what a wanky term, of all time was Martin Bella. He 'clutched' on to the genitalia of Luke Ricketson in an origin match which started one of the best brawls.

Clutch player, wtf are they? A quarter of members on this site I'm sure would love to change the name of the NRL to National Rugby League Football League.

How many times has Slater been the recipient of the ball and then burst through to win Origins and International games. However I would tend to think it was the man playing him the ball that deserves the kudos for spotting him. That means with Lockyer gone that Smith or Thurston are the men.

But every great play maker needs a good finisher so maybe the "go to combo" would be a better question.

Exactly. Slater is great at being in position to take the ball on a scripted, rehearsed set play and then using his pace to make the line - ie running off Smith through the ruck, or hanging off Lockyer/Thurston after an outball-inball. Think about any time he tries to be creative with the ball. It either ends up in row D or with the opposition.
