I recall Phil Bailey landing a couple on Webcke in SOO aswell.
Tough as nails but is simply a hopeless fighter

 I remember that. Webcke plays the ball and then proceeds to charge at Bailey who in return nails him with about 8 right jabs...

Along with all the boxers and junior boxing champs who play the game, here's a name out of the blue... Mick De Vere.

Wouldn't know it from looking at him or watching him play, but apparently a very experienced black-belt in a form of martial arts (can't remember if it was karate or tae-kwon-do).

'kandos" ryan was a champion boxer amongst other things.

he's probably had one of the most interesting lives one could hope to lead.

I don't think so mate. Witt can definately hold his own, and regularly finds himself in the thick of fights on the field. I've seen him sent to the bin twice in his career, both times involved throwing punches.

I forgot about DeVere and I think it is Karate.
I wonder if many teams bring in martial arts specialists?
Something like Judo could be very beneficial in defense

witt may be able to 'box' but he certainly can not 'fight'
if witt came up against someone bigger and stronger in a fight on the league field he would get belted! just like he does in defence!

there is a difference, alot of people can throw a punch, its how you receive them as well

alot of martial arts involve kicking and elbowing, and if someone who was trained eg de vere used those on a league field he would be belted!

not saying he wouldnt go well but theres a difference

Scott Prince. Bronocs trainer reackons he could make it in boxing if he wanted to.

There ya go, like I said you can never pick them....

As for DeVere sooperdooper I agree martial arts bouts and footy punchups are completely different BUT if you have some sort of training it can only help.
As for elbows, they can be very effective on a football field, ask Darryl Brohman

Witty was a junior boxing champ, and Marcus Perenara learned all about on Sunday

Marcus Perenara got tackled when he had his back turned after the penalty had been blown. Witt threw two punches when Perenara gave back a flurry of his own.

Witt may have a background in boxing but put it this way: Rugby League was the career he chose of the two sports. That suggests he was an even worse boxer ...

Ask Lyons, Hoppa and Kosef.

When you can beat all of them together, on your own, you qualify as tough.
