For mine, it would have to be anything from Brian May, but I am a huge Queen fan, so I may be a tad biased! The fact that he wrote heaps of songs - many of which were hits - also should help his cause.

Of all of Brian's Queen and solo work, I would have to nominate 'Brighton Rock' (Queen), 'Ressurrection' (solo), 'Heaven For Everyone' (Queen), & 'Innuendo' (Queen). And these are just the ones that I can think of at the moment as standing out. I could come back tomorrow and suggest another completely different half-dozen ... but I won't.

I really could go on for hours, but I'll spare you!

master of puppets solo. even the warm soft lead up to it. hetfields picking then the heavy chunky riff whcih then leads into kirk kicking some serious fretboard ass.

also i'm loving the solo to paranoid by iommi. not flashy or overly brilliant but its such a great solo.
gotta love sleeping villiage by sabbath also. incredible guitar work in general.

I'm of the opinoin the best guitar " solos " aren't always the hardest or most flashiest, but the most catchy.

Given that being the case, Hotel California by the Eagles has to be first and daylight second - surely one of the most recognisable solos ever?

Also gotta love the young Eric Clapton solo on the Beatles " While My Guitar Gently Weeps " off the White Album.

( I wonder how many people here knew that was Eric Clapton playing on that song? )

Something to ponder hmmmmmmmmm ;-)

Dry County rocks... :music1:

It sure does!

my personal fav though is in 3 days by dave navarro (janes addiction)

the entire song but the guitar solo in particular just takes you to another place entirely

My vote goes to John Frusciante's solo in 'Scar Tissue'.

Not many notes and not fast at all. But played with absolute conviction.

Awesome guitarist.

Frusciante's tone throughout the whole Californication album is so tinnie (cant spell, tin-i, as in can of vb, trebley) and the solos are all so plain and sound like a kid learning to play. Yet somehow fit the tunes and add something to the music.

Thats my opinion of his work on that album. Dont really care for much if anything of the Chilies music after that album, they lost some of their spark and funk.

My fav solos:

Estranged, rocket queen, dont damn me, i hate everybody but you, back and fourth again, serial killer - Slash. Theres more but i cant list them all.

Dream is over - Van Halen. He has a million more but theres one great one.

Crazy little thing called love - Brian May. Simple cool little solo with a great feel.

Fallen Anegl - CC deville, a song i loved my whole life and so i wanted to throw some poison in there!

Zakk Wylde's solo in No More Tears by Ozzy Osbourne is the best solo of all time in my opinion, sends shivers down my spine evrytime I hear it.
And getting back to the WASP :Crimson Idol thing,
How freaked am I .I have just dusted off that Cd last week and am currently listening to it in the car....must be something in the water.

Ron Jeremy did you know?
You guy's wouldn't know what a guitar solo is
That solo in Europe's The Final Countdown was ripped off from Randy Rhodes solo in Mother Earth from Ozzies first solo album.
Shows how much you know ;-) :) ;-)

And getting back to the WASP :Crimson Idol thing,

Not only is the solo work magic throughout the song but the song is just amazing, great lyric's, vocals everything.....i must admit the solo's do have abit of a Comfortably numb feel about it.

Love WASP......Im a wild child  ....brillant!

Indeed, the solo just suits the song perfectly. I love it!
speaking of brilliant guitar solos...Nile - Stones of Sorrow. It's mesmerising, almost trance-like...brutal but with melodic sensibilities, oh so catchy and very memorable. Immolation - 'nailed to gold' is also damn brilliant.
