Put your personel favourite & you can also include the best song you think of each genre. Rap, Rock, R&B, Blues, Classical etc.

My personal favourite is Hero of the Day by Metallica, but I wouldn't call it the best song ever by any means.

Probably Stairway to Heaven.

All Rock - Down Down - Status Quo
R'n'B - September - Earth, Wind and Fire.
Alternative - VAST - Touched.
Blues, Rap, Jazz - Hate it all.
Country & Western - Every which way but loose - Eddie Rabbit.
Hip Hop - I kinda liked Hey Ya by Outkast. (It's more pop though)

AFAIK, hip-hop is not a musical genre as such, but rather rap is the music of the hip-hop culture (with rap and hip-hop sometimes being used as synonyms).

The Drapery Falls - Opeth
Metropolis Pt1 - Dream Theater
Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden
Hangar 18 - Megadeth
Master of Puppets - Metallica

I can't pick a favorite out of any of those.

"Stairway to Heaven" -Led Zepplin I think would have to be the best Rock song. This idea is based on the average number of times it get requested in the states, plus I love the song. The lyrics have this mysteriosness about them & I find it so intrigueing, in a way I can't describe. One critic described the song as "The best example of a song having a orgasm I've ever heard"

Apparantly Robert Plant wrote the lyrics 5 minutes before the song was scheduled to be recorded. Gotta have something to do with its "wtf is he on about?" factor.

ATM I'm really digging The Herd - 77%.

Not the best song ever, but my favourite song atm.

I'm quite fond of "Monkeys Gone To Heavan" by Pixies at the moment - kicked arse on Letterman last night...
