And he would have run between the fielder and the stumps.
He actually got out of the way and ended up on the other side of the stumps.

It's genuinely likely to cost them the game too.

13 off the last over is potentially a big ask, and you've had Ross make his ground and still be dismissed...who knows what happens if he faces the next ball instead of walking off

Too bad the BBL don't force players and coach to sit though a presser, the kiwis would be well within their rights to cut loose

Canes deserved to win, Darcy Short is carrying them but with him they can knock over anyone. Boyce was also outstanding with his spell he changed the momentum.

Heats fielding cost them, that was C-grade level shit.

Ross call was harsh for sure but he clearly changes his line so he has put himself in the position where it could be perceived that he has tried to impede play... very surprised they gave him out but the precedent has been set now

So the next time a batsman goes for a run and in the action of trying to avoid contact the ball strikes him, it's out.. why wouldn't you just line him up from inside the circle, that's the precedent that they've set here tonight

Seriously, if that ball doesn't hit him, Wade would've had to throw it to effect the run out, the only way he was going to be out was if the ball deflected off him and hit the stumps, even then he was home by at least half a metre, Hobart gained more advantage from the ball hitting him and deflecting into the stumps that they would have if it didn't hit him, dangerous precedent

I don't agree with the decision but why did Ross run inwards? If he runs straight chances are it hits him and saves a direct hit.

Still a poor decision.

This

Apparently the umpires are just playing out his new law, you can not deviate your run to the other end (when fielding side is attempting a run out)

From behind him it did look like he was running toward the stumps, he angled away from his direct run to me it looked bad

don't like the decision either but I understand it

Just got home from the game and finally got a good look at the obstructing the field call.

WTF?? He was clearly avoiding the ball, who decided on that call General Patton and the bunker?? Terrible call that probably cost the Heat the match. As if that spastic Wade would of gloved the ball cleanly anyway. At least i got to sledge the untalented little plank tonight.

There is nothing in the law that says a running batsman cannot change his line

https://www.lords.org/mcc/laws-of-c...ned/law-37-changes-out-obstructing-the-field/

It was pretty clear that he was trying to avoid being hit tbh

Again, there is nothing in the law about changing line.

if he was trying to avoid being hit why did he deviate his line and run so he'd be between the ball and stumps?

if he'd stuck to his original line he would not have been hit

True... not directly anyway, however by deviating his line it could be interpreted as an attempt to obstruct play by action.

I don’t think that’s what he was trying to do, but if he runs straight then there is no questions asked.

Canes deserved to win anyway BMac even admitted so after the game

If the current amendments to the obstruction law were brought in during Arjuna Ranatunga's time, he would've been given out plenty of times. The fatarse was notorious for changing his line to try and shepherd the stumps.

"Just in case the Law was not clear enough, the ICC Playing Conditions for Twenty20 international cricket state:

For the avoidance of doubt, if an umpire feels that a batsman, in running between the wickets, has significantly changed his direction without probable cause and thereby obstructed a fielder’s attempt to effect a run out, the batsman should, on appeal, be given out, obstructing the field. It shall not be relevant whether a run out would have occurred or not."
