I dont think anyone can call the Sex Pistols sellouts really, because they were always about the money. They were manufactured by malcolm mclaren and dressed by vivienne westwood so they could get some advertising for their sh*tty store. The fact that talented musicians Steve Jones and to a lesser extent Paul Cook stayed in a band with very very untalented Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten proves they were all a vehicle for money and not social change, which is suggested from all the gutterpunks. If thats not enough then how about when they reunited in 93 for a tour in which at the press conference they openly admitted it was only for the money.

"Do you have the copy of the radio edit of Rage Against the Machines song 'Killing in the Name Of,' where they take out the part that says "f**k you i wont do what you tell me," because the record company told them to.

Do you have a copy of A Tribe Called Quests greatest hits even though they never had a hit?

I really don't think you can consider RHCP sell-outs. They have had a solid basis for their music and it has never really changed. What has changed is the tunes and melodies that have transformed from funky to pop - perhaps some see this as a sell-out but personally I just see it as their growth as a band. Their funk stuff was great, don't get me wrong, but if they continued with that they would have become extremely stale.

There are some songs on Stadium Arcadium that may be considered commerical trash, but it's not enough to label them sell-outs.

Sell outs to some obviously means

1) Just not liking a different sound from the band
2) Not liking the political references of the artist.
3) Just straight out don't like them..

Think that covers it..

was just reading through all the whinging about death magnetic vs. early metallica albums in this thread and wanted to throw in my 2 cents, in particular about he way the album sounds. while the compression issue is a little disappointing (the song actually sounds much better on guitar hero, lol)... there is another obvious reason why their sound has changed. death magnetic is the first album that rick rubin has produced for the band... which is why it has that much more "slayerish" feel to it now - particularly the guitar mixing. i think the general mixing of the album itself is great and one of the top reasons why i like the new sound.

personally i think death magnetic is a fantastic album, and i regularly listen to all nightmare long and cyanide as part of my regular playlist... however i think you'd have to be a bit mad or ignorant to claim that it is better than puppets, lightning and justice. as a few others have said, those are abolute classics of metal. death magnetic is a nice album, but it is not epic.

You like Cyanide? I think it is the weak song on the album myself. As for DM V the others, it certainly ranks up there, i rank it ahead of puppets.. I have never been a huge fan of puppets, battery is awesome but overall they have a few better albums IMO.

Wooooaaaaah - that is a massive call.

Ahead of puppets?? Can't agree mate. Puppets was the first metallica album i bought and prob in my top 5 albums ever.

I doubt in 23 years time DM will be held in the same regard as puppets is today.

Agree re Cyanide - not a big fan. BB&S is my fav on DM.

I reckon you Metallica fans should kiss the ground .
The mere fact that they have given you DM is a miracle.

They are old men with kids ....who probably hate each other guts.

I realise my opinion is at odds with many, asides from Battery, which is their best song ever, i don't get into it as much as the likes of KEA, RTL, AJFA.. The test as you say for DM, will be the longevity it has..

The Judas Kiss is my favourite of DM closely followed by Nightmare and Bb&s.. I can't see any reason this album won't still sound as good to me in 10 years as it does now.
