Got a performane of a centre worth about $400-450k.

I can see him being between a rock and a hard place for us. Wants spine money but won't play in the spine. Barring injury of course.
This is the heart of the issue. At the Sharks there are better players ahead of him at five eighth and fullback.

He has shown excellent qualities in origin and the gf. Big game players are essential for success but his output is currently nowhere near elite in most club games.

If he goes to the knights or eels, does he play 6 or 1 at either of those clubs?

Cronulla to Newcastle I can see but to parramatta, not really. Not fussed to be honest and always felt he would bail anyway. Good luck to him

Don't know anything about the offers Birds received but if Newcastle are offering $900k and Cronulla offers $700k you stay with Cronulla every day of the week.

Why you ask?
Nothing to do with football but it's all about lifestyle.
On $200 k difference you have relocation fees, transport costs as you'd still be travelling back to see friends etc.
Impacts on your time.
You have tax.
Sure there'll be a dollar difference still but not that much.
But the most mportant thing is he's already in a routine to get his medication etc.
If you move to Newcastle no doubt they'll set him up with the right medics for his treatment but believe me when you've got the right routine going treating an illness you don't need to be packing up and moving to another area to get treated.
Can effect anything moving to a new area.
You won't believe this but I also heard of a footballer who got homesickness.
True story.

Newcastle i just cant see him going there.

But Tigers/Eels thats different, each week they lose, it is putting Bird is stronger position, i am getting point where i wont be overly worried if he does leave, i trust Flanno can get us a replacement to do the job

The way Jack Bird is playing he should be just happy to be wanted by a very strong Club in the Sharks and being offered decent coin.

He's no Super Star.

Can anyone tell me games he's single handily won it for us?

$900k is elite money and as talented as he is. He ain't elite.

Stop listening to the drivel that comes out of Andrew John's mouth Jack and you'll live in a more real world.

Any young talent that comes up now for discussion now Andrew John's says "Oh he's a super star.... blah, blah, blah..

Hell of a lot cheaper to live in Newcastle though.
It is cheaper but you have to live in Newcastle not wherever he's set up with family friends etc now.

He'd probably still go to the same doctor.
I would.
It's the time involved with all health issues that'd be way more important than money too me.

Its a shame but i dont blame the kid.
Jeez Newcastle might want to start targwting some decent forwards now, no point having great backs if your forwards are getting steamrolled every week.

That's a lot of dollars out of the $8.3 million cap.

What did ponga get? $1mil, plus birds $900k. That's 23% without rep bonuses etc.

Shit deal by the club. They won't make the 8, with 28 other players sharing 6.4 mil.

I'm hearing he's gonna take the Knights offer.

$200k a year more too good an option to pass up and most would do the same.

It's a lot of money difference especially in a young guys eyes.

I don't blame him but I don't think it's the right decision for his career.

But he's already won a Premiership.
