Bird Contract

cb4 said he's gone so he's gone.
I actually said he has a verbal agreement with Newcastle but is giving Cronulla a chance to match the offer.
The Bird has flown comment, we have advised him we won't be matching it which puts Bird in a rock and a hard place.

Does he stay with a team that is competitive in a position he doesn't want to play and contend for the finals and potentially another premiership? Does he stay for less and hope that Chad leaves so he can get the 6 jersey?

Or does he go and get paid at Newcastle but struggle to win a game?

In his spot. I would go to Newcastle. Many at Cronulla think he is will do the same. Not many are fussed.

If we beat Melbourne on Sunday I think he will stay regardless of any signed contract.
I can't see a result mattering to him otherwise he would have signed after we won the comp.
If a result mattered, he should have signed after Penrith beat them 40-0.

His ego is all that matters. Be that as the number 1 man in a shit team and copping a heap for it.

Or being a player in a competitive team with mates around and making rep sides.

If the difference in money strokes his ego enough when its down (and it will be at that joint), then good for him.

The Bird has flown.

Thank you for the clarification cb4.

I took this as goneski.

I heard if he accepts our offer it will make him the highest-paid player in the history of the club.

The club that just won their first premiership and he was an integral part of it.

Or more cash to move further from family and mates to a cellar dweller.

Strange days have found us.

I can't see how we keep both Bird and Chad.....everyone wants an upgrade and rightly so. You would have to say Bird has more upside for us than Chad or if the rumours are true do you let Jimmy go as he is the eldest.....tough decisions but money talks.

The problem is certain f**king managers telling certain players they're super stars and should now join the million a year Club.

Heard Orr talking about Townsend saying he's a Premiership winning half back..... Blah, blah, blah.

He forgot to mention he got hooked two games before the GF and many thought he wouldn't feature in the team after that.

Selective memories those player managers.

No, we don't let Maloney go - the other 2 are replaceable - esp. Chad.

Fahh kew guys are happy to chuck out the best team in the comp. They all were part of it. They are the sum, of the success. Without any of them, we don't win.
Show some far ken loyalty.
It's got nothing to do with loyalty - we'd all like to keep all the players, but stuff happens - like retirement, like players who want more $$$, like players who have improved greatly and are now knocking on the door of first grade...

I don't personally want any of the 17 to go - even the fringe players like Paulo and Capewell did a great job - so I AGREE with you!
