Blake Austin is a better 5/8 than Anthony Milford & Mitchell Moses

It seems to be have been a perfect outcome for both teams....

Canberra would have had to pay overs for Milford who would have the burden of playmaking responsibilities with Canberra which isn't his go. He fits nicely into Brisbanes structures and is learning to be a great 5/8th.

Meanwhile Canberra get Austin who you can build a team around and is playing for great value.

Pretty much.

How long will NSW ignore Austin?

Canberra Raiders half Blake Austin stakes claim for State of Origin 2016

Just a couple of days after New South Wales were destroyed in game three of the 2015 State of Origin series, Blake Austin staked yet another claim for a blue jumper with a blistering performance. It took fewer than 20 minutes for the Raiders five-eighth to help himself to a hat-trick as Canberra won easily at home against Newcastle, 36-22.
.@RaidersCanberra Blake Austin's first half stats: 3 tries 1 line break 50 run metres 2 tackle busts 1 x 70 metre dropout #NRLRaidersKnights

Austin was in many people's hypothetical Origin teams for this year, but didn't feature in Laurie Daley's side as Mitchell Pearce and Trent Hodkinson both endured a mostly disappointing series.

After just two minutes, he was in the perfect position to back-up on the inside after Jordan Rapana made a break - before bursting through himself from 20m out in the eighth minute - and then getting a hand to a Sam Williams grubber kick in the fifteenth to complete the treble.
BREAKING NEWS: QLD officials break into the Canberra births, deaths & marriages & attempt to change Blake Austin home state to QLD

The 24-year-old from Western Sydney had stints with both the Penrith Panthers and Wests Tigers before arriving in the nation's capital this year, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a better signing this season.
Canberra host the Sharks next Saturday night and will look to string two wins together for the first time since round eight.
40 mins of Blake Austin and the @RaidersCanberra and I've completely forgotten about that mid week event.

The woes continue for Newcastle, who have won just won game since April.

Playing for the Raiders actually would help Rep selection. Laurie, Mal and Shines have obvious connections and would talk a bit to Sticky.

Players like Mogg played for QLD and Campese made the Aussie four nations side. Eddy Lee was 18th man for QLD this year despite most saying he should be punted to make way for BJ. Austin is loved by the media, even channel 9. He'll be in the NSW #6 next year.

This.

Both players are playing great footy for their respective clubs. If you swapped players with clubs I think neither would be doing as well as they are now.

A Canberra paper supporting your argument? Oh well I guess it's case closed then.

Do you honestly believe Austin wouldn't warrant Origin selection next year on his current form and his performances this year?

If he carries this form into next season, Laurie would be mad not to pick him.

Having said that, Canberra fans sure are funny about their local rag. They rubbish articles in other papers that don't support their arguments (sometimes even papers owned by the same parent company) but seem to hold The Canberra Times up as a tome of gospel on anything and everything.

The Wests Tigers have made some grave errors that will only be realized in the years to come. They have gone all in on Brooks and Moses and I think that is a major mistake. They lost Austin and Martin now. Imagine the 2017 grandfinal being Canberra v Penrith while the Tigers spend even more years in mediocrity.

i'll eat my hat if Ricky Stuart ever coaches a side to a Grand Final on his own merits and before anyone jumps in, the Roosters side he coached was all thanks to one Phil Gould

Bump

Not on recent form

Worst player on the field tonight, Tigers first and last try directly through him. Then turned the ball over with 4 minutes to go on the 3rd tackle only meters out from the Tigers line.

Completely dominated by Mitch who is improving every week. Unlike Blake who has already reached his ceiling.

All four halves in that game were complete and utter shite, all of them. I'll admit ive barely watched a Tigers game this year but if that display was Mitchell Moses "dominating" and "improving every week" then i shudder to think how bad he has been leading up to now.

lol Moses was sh*thouse last night.

Definitely Austin's worst game of the year, but still still has it in spades over the Tigers halves.

The two worst games from Austin this year have both come against the tigers. Looks to me in both games he tried way to hard to make a point... He's still very inexperienced as a half and these sorts of ups and downs are expected.

Not an intelligent, well thought out, analytical bump.

Moses showed nothing again. Austin actually directly ran through his tackles. Sure it was Austin's worst game but he was still better than Schnitzel Moses.

Our problem is we didn't send enough traffic towards the weakest defender in the NRL. We sent a rookie at him.

Brooks & Tedesco on the other hand were very good.

LOL Moses could win the dally m and youd still say he is shit. Then you clutch at straws and say brooks was good when he was completely diabolical.

Over the last 4 weeks Moses has been good. A lot of the time tedesco gets space is because of him. I wouldnt be commenting on his defense after we ran straight through Blake for 2 tries.

Austin is no doubt talented but has continually failed to come up with a clutch play when he's team need it. Sure he's good for some flashy tries against Newcastle and penrith nsw cup team. But against any semi decent team he gets shown as the one trick pony he is.

Now the tigers are only 1 win away from the raiders and with the draw we have are a good chance of finishing ahead of them. Another chance for Mitch to finish on top of Blake, like he will for the rest of his career.
