Blake Austin is a better 5/8 than Anthony Milford & Mitchell Moses

A lil quiet in here after the successful return of the Raiders halves. If we lost on Monday night, I'm sure there would be a few new posts in here.

Couldnt be happier about that. I dont care that much about Origin
I want Sezer and Austin playing as much footy together for the Raiders as they can

Austin did a couple of things Vs the Dogs which Milford could never dream of doing. That one on one tackle on T-Rex where he crunched him and Williams dropped the ball, you have to respect that. Milford could neeeeeever do that. And this is one reason why I think Austin is better. He's a solid defender. Milford gets shrugged off by guys like Morgan with ease.

Austin also put in 2 of the biggest touch finders I've ever seen in my 27 years of watching this game. He also pulled off another massive line drop-out in the pouring rain. Austin could go on to revolutionize the way the game is played with his audacious kicks, like Steph Curry is in basketball with the length of his 3-pointers.

It was a solid return, and I expect he's going to get better in the coming weeks.

If Daley isn't looking at him, too bad for NSW.

Im just happy he got through the game tbh.

I thought he was solid tbh but what i was most impressed by was that he didnt over play his hand like he could do in quiet games last year. He more or less played what was in front of him and let sezer do most of the fancy stuff.

All shit aside Austin is obviously a very good player. However when a player was virtually invisible all night (which after coming back from a 4 week injury is understandable) to say 'I was impressed he didn't overplay his hand' is stretching it and trying to find something to compliment him about.

Nah he could really suck last year when things didnt work. His games against you guys for example were terrible.

He was pretty solid against the dogs. He did what he was good at and backed up, took the line on,etc without blowing tries and taking terrible options. He could have had a couple of tries if a link man connected with him (i think it was him who would have gone length of the field if lee got the ball to him)

The canberra 1,6 and 7 compliment each other quite well. Throw in one of the best 9s in the game and its a good spine. I wouldn't want austin as a primary playmaker though where a guy like milford can do that

he didn't overplay his hand because he never played any hands, look at his stats

8 runs for 46 metres, 3 missed tackles and that's all she wrote

Those would be bad numbers if he was playing prop lol. Aiden sezer made 40ms and 90 percent of that was from one play....yet he was one of the raiders best. Spine positions (well besides fullback) is a little bit more complicated than how many metres they made.

A lot of austins best work is off the ball in support.

Im not saying that he should have got dally m points (that said wighton got 3 over hodgson and sezer somehow so who knows) but im saying he was solid and did what he should do. He backed up papalii, he was sniffing around for offloads, he had a couple of runs close to the bulldogs line testing their defence. Thats what i want as austins floor, not games where he is bombing tries all over the place.

Showing your ignorance again blabla. Stats never tell the real story in RL. This isn't Cricket or Basketball ya mong.

One of the main reasons I like Austin is because he's a throwback style 5/8. I'm sick of extra halfbacks at 5/8, or a backrower/centre masquerading as a 5/8.

I do think Hodgson may have overplayed his hand a lil with the short side plays. There was a couple of times whre he really should've sent it the open side for the halves to do their thing. Austin needs more ball. Once we get that balance right, we'll be good.
