John Williams would be good but a bit more expensive than Bon Jovi or Tom Jones

I reckon it's a great idea to use a footy player to write a song

I've said it before - it really doesn't matter what current RL fans think. These ads aren't made for the rusted on fans, they're made to attract casual fans to more games and those not familiar with the game to take a second look. It's the hook for new people, not something that needs to appeal to hardcore fans.

Agreed.

However, picking an act like say Wes Carr isn't exactly a great way to bring new fans to the game.

You'd be surprised how little it would cost.

JW wouldn't get much over $1-2 million to score an entire movie, so coming up with a 2-3 min bit of music for our game would honestly not cost that much.

We could just send him 2-3 hours worth of origin and NRL highlights and I'm sure he'd nail it

PS - Grinspoon are right in to RL. Surely they could belt out an NRL anthem.
I'm not a huge Grinspoon fan, but Phil Jamieson performed with You Am I during the 2010 grand final entertainment, doing a version of the Stones 'Start Me Up', with some sweet montage action, and it was god damn magnificent. Obviously the rights to that song are probably well beyond the NRL's budget, but geez it would be perfect. Check it out.
