Boring Kicks For Boring Tries

Is it just me, or do the same teams just rely on thier kicking ability to score tries instead of thier footwork ability? ie: Melbourne 90% of thier tries are off the back of cronks boot....this is why footy can get boring!!! :x

I'd rather a good try from a kick, then seeing a simple limp effort at tackling from close to the line resulting in a try.

yes it is getting boring

did anyone see the roast on sunday?

someone suggested if you score a try from a kick then you don't get to kick for goal

i'd like to see a reduction in points from a bomb

4 points for a try
3 points from a bomb

^I think that's a load of crap and was one of the most stupidest ideas they've had. Kicking is a part of footy and always has been - And I don't find kicking for tries boring at all...what do people expect a 90m effort for every try?
People complain too much, there's nothing wrong with it.

Get rid of the wrestling. Kicking for tries will always be a part of the game.

For me it drives me nuts as Newcastle are the worst team at getting results from kicks.

Although I get more annoyed with us being not so good at it rather than teams being good at it.

Get hold of the Melbourne v Tigers game just on and tell me Slater's try from the kick was anything other than brilliant.

Deserved 6 points for the try only.

RL rules have always been designed to limit kicking. That's what made it different from yawnyawn. The balance is now shifting towards too much kicking again. It's becoming very clear that clubs are adopting a game plan that involves simple, boring, safety-first, yard-gaining football to simply get the side within range for a 50-50 lottery kick, either a bomb or cross-field kick. If you can complete enough of these mindless sets and kick accurately enough you'll score enough tries to win the game, especially if the other side doesn't complete as much or doesn't kick as accurately. Something has to be done. Firstly they have to do something to cut down the dummy half running that has taken over the NRL. It's rare to see less than two a set and even when they do pass it's often after the dummy half has passed the advantage line and is usually just a one-out pass. They then have to deal with the number of kicks. All of the suggestions so far have some merit. But some have more than others.

I understand what you are saying ECT but FFS.

Are we never happy?

That game was a cracker tonight and the kicks added to it; more than that it was hardly a boring game at any stage.

I hardly watched it. In fact I can hardly stand watching the NRL anymore. It's so frustrating because the dummy half running is constant. They seriously have to do something about it. I'd hate to see it like touch where you have to turn it over if caught from dummy half but I'd almost prefer it to the crap we're seeing now. I also hate making arbitrary rules that make it even harder to officiate, but maybe they have to look at some changes. I think if markers were allowed to stand shoulder to shoulder that would make it harder for the dummy halves and they'd have no choice but to come up with something else except when they catch a side with one marker (or none). That's the way it should be. Dummy half runs should only happen when the defence has been caught out, not every bloody ruck. The trade off could be that the tacklers have to get off quicker. ie cut the wrestling sh*t out. Watch the SL and they are really playing much better footy and it's because the PTBs are quicker and they use the ball instead of the one dimensional crap we see in the NRL.

The highest percentage of tries from kicks for any team is the roosters and that is less that 45% (was 45% or so before friday night where we scored 5 tries all through the hands).

Giving tries differing points for how spectacular they are is just ridiculous. Next after tries from kicks will be tries from dummy half, then tries from a one out barge over, then tries with only 1 pass.....

Until finally we will have a panel of ex-footballer lead by Matthew Johns, Mark Geyer and Graham Hughes up in the box scoring the tries like figure skating.

Imagine it... Grand final 2017. Melbourne vs Gold Coast. Titans currently up by 17. The storm throw throw three flick passes, 2 chip kicks, and then finally a double axle and backflip for the put down.

Will it be enough??

Geyer - 6
Johns - 6
Hughes - 6

YES!!! ITS A PERFECT SCORE!!! THE STORM WIN IT!!!!

I mentioned this in another thread, but instead of giving a penalty to the kicking team, they should give the Defending team more advantage.

1. Let the defender knock the ball dead to gather a 20 meter restart from a kick that has not touched the ground and has been kicked from inside the 30.

This gives the defender a chance to knock it out, much easier to defend against, and would limit the high kicks to the corner for nothing other than just a contest.

Teams could still kick for wingers, but that player would have to have the advantage allready to be able to score.

The rule changes to protect the kicker have lead to this. Kicker now know they can take as long as they need to get a kick away.i'm all for protecting the kicker and i don't want to see anyone hurt but as it stands it's taken to far

I love seeing tries scored of the boot but lately team just play one out footy until their close enough to put up a high ball

I couldn't believe Voss & co carrying on about kicking yesterday. It's a very exciting part of the game.

Next thing they'll want to eliminate kicking, get rid of conversions and penalties, no goal posts, and watch teams play bash and barge 6 each.

It's up to teams to work on defusing this current tactic.
