Yeah, you can say Walt's a good man if you want, but it doesn't mean they are right.
...
It's just people cheering for a dickhead because they think he's a badass.
If this is your view then you don't really understand why people cheer for Walt.
I did that myself, going for Walt against Hank and Gus and even justifying him letting Jane die, until that final shot of season 4.
I don't see, for instance, how Walt's measured poisoning of Brock is any worse than Jesse dealing meth to addicts in drug rehabilitation.
Sure, you could argue that one is a helpless child and the other is an addict. But both are equally susceptible and Jesse's action are more likely to lead to violence or death.
Jesse has been a loose cannon the entire series, but Walt kept him alive the whole time. Poisoning a kid doesn't make Walt a good guy, but let's get real for a moment - in the grand scheme of things they were pretty high level players in the illicit drug trade and supporting organised crime in multiple countries.
I support Walt because I'm not sympathetic to Jesse at all. Walt got into the business for a reason, Jesse is just an ordinary junkie criminal. Not because Walt is a "badass", but certainly because Walt is more calm, rational and level headed than Jesse is. Jesse just has a hang up about kids, he certainly doesn't give a shit about anything else.
