I just read this in Big League

The signing rumours have already begun with the June 30 no poaching deadline just a month away, so here are our contributions:
Raiders winger Joel Monaghan to join brother Michael at Manly, Brett Dallas to return from Wigan to join the Sharks or the Bulldogs, where his career began...and Stacey Jones to definitely go to the UK.

Thoughts?

His ties were with Ando weren't they? I don't think he is the style of winger we want.

I have watched a few Super League games this year and i lke what i have seen of Dallas every time. Being from Wigan he would have a tie of some sort to Raper being his former coach so it makes sense if he is interested in coming to the Sharks.
I would welcome him if the price is right. It would allow us an extra year or two to develope another winger in addition to Simmons.

His going great guns in Super League. One of the form wingers right now. I wouldn't turn him away for the right price

Simmons is our next fullback whenever Peachey moves on. I don't want Dallas, we'd be paying too much and he isn't big enough.

I wouldnt put him in the same class as Seers McSarkie. He has been playing really well for Wigan (being one of their standouts IMO) and I think he would be able to handle it back in the NRL. Im not gonna lose any sleep if we dont get him but i wouldnt mind if we did get him either at the right price.

I still reckon we keep looking.

Reick may not be the ideal winger but I can't see Dallas doing much better.

As Mc Sharkie said, do we want to risk another Seers debarcle ?

some ill informed opinions in this thread.

Dallas was advised not to reutn to Australia 2 years ago because of the drama with Opes. Took a smaller short term contract.
Along with Darren Albert(who suffered similar ankle problems) they have both relished the softer playing surfaces & have given their clubs excellent value.
They are both flyers in the SL & still would be in the NRL.
i would guess that Dallas is only slower over the fianl 20. He still explodes very well indeed.

Waste of money.. Why do we need more wingers anyway? We have Merritt, Simmons, Rieck, Pelo, Saleh and also Franze and Kent who could fill in on the wing.. Unless its a goal kicking winger, leave them alone we dont need them.. In saying that if a player like Tahu or El Masri (Although i dont really rate him as a player just as a goal kicker) came on the market, we would be stupid not to make an offer, but thats different..

We have Merritt, = no where near first grade
Simmons = thats one.
, Rieck = injured or clumsy
, Pelo = no where near first grade
, Saleh = has not put a foot wrong so just isn't in the plans
Franze = premier league player
Kent = Not ready & more of a centre & no where near as fast as Dallas

Tahu = contracted
or El Masri = Great buy

My point is, all the players listed above are still young.. They are only going to get better..
Merritt hasnt set the world on fire yet, but he has only played something 4 games this year.. He is also in his early 20's.. He hasnt exactley done anything wrong either..
Rieck, i agree is inconsistant, but when he has a good game he is a great player to watch.. Faster and younger then Dallas..
Pelo, once again a good young player, i would much rather keep him and let him take his time to reach First Grade then to let him go to another club and turn in to a great player, then to buy Dallas now who only has a couple of years at the most left in him..
Franze, is lacking form, when he is in form he is at First Grade standard.
Simmons, looks a great prospect..

There is no need to buy Dallas..

His best game he only dropped one pass. His worst he dropped 3. he has played 7.

He may be just faster than Dallas. But Dallas scores tries.

Pelo is a club priority apparently. he will be ready when Dallas retires.

That is very debatable. 1 or 2 good games is not a first grader.

like I said before. We have 1 winger.

Unless you have a plan on how to win the GF with one winger, then we do.

Takes time for players to develop.

He [Rieck] may be just faster than Dallas. But Dallas scores tries.

So you want to axe Rieck who you admit is quicker for a guy who scores tries in ESL? Look at his NRL/ARL record

1999 - 6 Tries
1998 - 9 Tries
1997- 10 Tries
1996 - 8 Tries
1995 - 5 Tries
1994 - 1 Try
1993 - 5 Tries
1992 - 3 Tries

So his best season is '97 that was eight years ago and those tries came against the following: Wests, South QLD, Parramatta (2), Manly, Illawarra, Gold Coast, Souths, Balmain, Easts.

Not exactly scoring against quality opposition 5 of the 9 don't even exist anymore and 3 of the the other 4 aren't exactly Premiership winning sides.

My point being Brett Dallas is not worth the money we would have to spend on him, sure he scores tries in ESL but ESL is not NRL. If you want to buy another winger buy someone who is either young, can kick goals or is a quality established NRL winger.
