Brett Stewart found not guilty of sexual assault

I would not stand him down. Maybe because he plays for my club however I never called for others in the same situation to be stood down.

As for the charge, very disappointed. But as my brother in law said yesterday it does not take much to get a sexual assult charge laid nowdays (he is a detective). Hopefully what ever he did is at the lower end of the scale!!! I am not condoning whatever he has done, just hoping it is as minor as you can get with being charged.
Minor in whos eyes?
Stuarts?
His alledged victim?
Or desperate manly supporters?

He will never be allowed to work in the UK or enter the US as well as being under close scrutiny in places like Thailand and China.

The whole week is and will be a distraction.

It's the coaches and players professionalism that will get them through.

I think he should play. Afterall he is getting paid to play...

You have to stand him down. Not only was a precedent set with Greg Bird and you have to send a message but he is going to no way in hell have his mind on the game for 80 minutes a week or at training.

For the next 12 months at least, he will be sitting in court listening to evidence on whether he goes to jail.

The greg bird incident is totally different. If for no other reason that he has a very long wrap sheet.

In the laws eyes, there are different degrees of sexual assualt. As a manly fan I am hoping it is the lower end of the scale.

maybe

all i want to know is on what grounds did manly deny the incident???????

did brett stewart deny it initially?

its the only thing i can think of
Mate i think you are missing the point here. He has been charged - he is presumed innocent at this current time.
How could you know if Manly were lying when denying or not? Judge in 1 months time.

To be honest, if a player from my club was charged, I'd want him stood down, and the team getting on with their business with as few distractions at training and on game day as possible.
Agree 100%.
Maybe then NRL needs to have a clause put into every contract, when this scenario happens the player is stood down, thereby removing any possible leniency shown by individual clubs to star players..if this was an unknown toyota cup player would he be stood down by the club?

you don't just charge people....there has to be sufficient grounds to charge them. if it was a complete bullsh*t case the police wouldn't have acted upon it

I think the point is that Manly perhaps would've been better off saying "we will make no comment on the matter at this juncture, until such time a police investigation has been completed".

It's a sh*t situation for all involved.

This is going to be a long drawn out saga. The initial hearing may be only a few weeks away, but that will just be him presenting himself before the court and making a plea. The case will be adjourned until probably 3 - 4 months after that at the very minimum so during the time in between he's going to be held in close scrutiny.

I've criticized Brett in this thread and in my opinion he should be stood down. However, at the same time I kinda feel sorry for the bloke. This kind of stuff would happen every day in Australia, and much worse crimes at that, yet he's the only one in the public eye.

I think he should stand himself down from football for the time being, that way he can keep out of the public eye and at least come to terms with this situation without the media's invasion.

I cannot believe Manly fans are still defending him.

I would have thought its pretty easy really.

Especially considering we know nothing of what he did or didnt do and he hasnt been found guilty of anything.

Just becuase they are defending him doesnt mean they condone sexual assault. Im sure if he's found guilty most people will change their minds.
