Brett Stewart found not guilty of sexual assault

I've stated facts.

I've not stated he is guilty or innocent. But under the law he is innocent until he is proven guilty.

Until the case is finished, I believe he should be stood down from the NRL because it is the right thing to do.

If a politician had similar charges, there is no way he would be attending question time.

now i know he stood down as a minister , but he is still in parliament.

PMSL...spoken like a manly supporter...let him play!..your kidding yourself.....can you imagine the pressure being put on manly right now from the NRL to drop him...it will happen tomorrow
.."in the interests......" or"in light of......"

Like I said I would let him play. I am well aware that Manly will be under hugh pressure to drop him, and it will more than likely happen tonight.

So now he is charged surely Manly have to stand him down.
I mean if they have any morals at all they should stand him down til the court case.

What does interest me here is to find out what makes this sexual assault as opposed to just plain assault.

Im only guessing here but it seems like this will be towards the minor end of the scale.

In saying that though there is no excuse for that type of behaviour no matter how minor. ( if he did do it)

s61I of the NSW Crime Act 1900 describes Sexual Assault as 'sexual intercourse without consent'. I presume he was charged with this crime under this section.

other jurisdictions (ie Qld) define Rape as the above, and Sexual Assault as 'indecently dealing' with another.

However, it appears that this is, by another definition, a Rape charge.
Therefore you cannot downplay the seriousness of this charge, nor the value of DNA evidence that will come to play in court.

We are not simply talking about a 'grope'

Shellshocked, I have not wanted to believe this. There is obviously enough evidence to convince the police of his guilt.

Unbelievable.

I believe heads should roll at Manly as a result of this. I know I will get some saying "he's an adult and you cant blame others for his actions" which is essentially true. But I would ask...

Was he "at work", performing official duties as a contracted player at the season launch?
Who paid for the alcohol he consumed at the season launch?
And were players given an "open bar"?
Where was the team security that has shadowed the Sea Eagles for years and helped the club avoid this type of scandal?
Why did Peter Peters (who usually has that responsibility when the contracted security is not present) leave early?
Is Peters so unprofessional that he cannot put aside his differences with Delmege to perform his responsibilities at the club?
Is Grant Mayer's statment of "In hindsight it wasn't such a great idea" in reference to the season launch pissup a case of covering his own arse and should he and Peter Peters be fired immediately by the board?

I am so very dissapointed with Brett Stewart. I have watched this guy and his rise since his debut in the top grade in 04. He is my 7 year old daughters favourite player, my mum describes him as "every mothers boy" and adored him.

I am filthy at the club... 1 effing week out from what should be Manly's proudest season. Defending our premiership. Regaining the mantle of the codes glamour club... in tatters. "In hind(f***ing)sight" hey Grant? Didn't want to be around Max hey Zorba? You both are a disgrace, you both should be the ones stepping forward and shouldering the balme in the face of disillusioned Manly supporters. You both do not deserve to wear the clubs colours or be paid a wage from my membership fees.

You are a good fan and I feel sorry for you that this has happened to the club.

The others who are blindly calling for him to remain in the team whilst the case goes on are pathetic.

There should have been stricter guidlines for the players at at the season launch but at the end of the day Stewart is a 24 year old man who makes his own decisions. We can not expect officials to tuck them into bed everytime they venture into a bar.
