I'm not against it, in fact I don't really have a dog in the fight, but I would warn that orange and green can be hard to pull off.

Green would have to be the dominant colour.

Like this Irish RL team jersey?

or even better, this design from London Irish Rugby Union club, with an orange stripe instead of the red that's in the photo. (Lighter shade of green, just a simple stripe around the middle)

Just forget the red/orange/whatever stripe, and switch the shorts alternatively.

Perfect.

2050? I think this could well be in place by the mid 2030s.. even by the end of THIS decade if the NRL really focus.

I agree - I just think that these team should be introduced in stages with a good bit of breathing room to develop before the next one comes in.

Titans went bust within a few years. Let’s see if another se qlnd team does any better before getting too excited about adding a fourth!

Reading between the lines, Dolphins have the edge. Of the three bids, Dolphins will have the least impact on Brissie Donkeys and GC Titans. Easts plan on taking in Logan and probably Redlands, so that encroaches upon Donkeys territory. Ipswich want to take in Logan and Ipswich. There's lots of Broncos fans in Ipswich, Logan and Redlands. Plenty of quality juniors in Ipswich and especially Logan. Plus the Dolphins bid is more advanced than the bids from Ipswich and Easts.

The only team that comes to mind that have consistently pulled off true orange and green uniforms is the University of Miami Hurricanes teams, and even they have got it wrong regularly throughout their history.

I couldn't find a good picture of one of their all orange uniforms, but their best look in modern times is when they are one solid colour (generally green) with minimal amounts of the other two.

You definitely need white in there as well (or another shade depending on the jersey and the shades of orange and green you are using) otherwise the colours clash and it just doesn't work.

I don't think that two teams in Brisbane by 2050 is oversaturating it at all.
There's a reason that even enormous cities/regions only have a couple of teams in most well run competitions.

It's because the third team in New York/New Jersey almost always isn't as valuable as the first in e.g. Boston, Kansas, Milwaukee, etc.
In other words, just because you can do something that doesn't mean that you should do something, and if Brisbane gets number 3 then somebody else has to miss out when in reality a team in (e.g.) Perth is almost certainly going to be way more valuable than Brisbane's 3rd despite Brisbane being the bigger market.

Also you can obfuscate all you like, but there's no denying that the more teams you add to a market the more you split the support in said market, and there's no real evidence that Brisbane can support 3 successful teams. In fact considering how the Titans have gone about an hour away, and how quickly Brisbane (and SEQ in general) has been to turn on teams once they start struggling, I'd suggest that being cautious is only sensible.

Still trying to work out where I suggested Brisbane gets a third team

Ipswich is not Brisbane
It's in Brisbane's metropolitan area and is close enough that it being it's own city on paper is a distinction without a difference. It's like when people say Parramatta and/or Penrith aren't part of Sydney...

Besides a team in Ipswich would be reliant on Brisbane for fans, sponsors, corporates, etc, to exist, so again it's a distinction without a difference.

I think the QRL needs to have a 30 year strategy for SEQ. Cities like Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay Region and Redland should be represented at Queensland Cup level, with the possibility of them fielding teams in the NRL when their population is big enough to support one.

Ipswich Jets is the only team representing any of these cities.

I'd relocate Wynnum Manly Seagulls to Redland and rebrand them the Redland Seagulls.

Redcliffe needs to become the Moreton Bay Dolphins.

Magpies should sent to Logan and rebranded as Logan Scorpions.

Easts should rebrand as Brisbane Firehawks and take in the districts of Souths, Easts and Wynnum Manly.

Norths can rebrand as the Brisbane Devils and take in the districts of Norths, Valleys, Brothers and Wests.

Burleigh become Gold Coast Bears. Get rid of Tweed Heads Seagulls.

That way every major LGA from Sunshine Coast to Gold Coast and Redland to Ipswich will have high quality RL games to watch every fortnight.

The QLD cup is fine as it is, why tinker with it so much just for the sake of dots on a map?

For me the future of QLD should be:

Broncos
Titans
Brisbane 2
North QLD
and maybe Sunshine Coast down the track

You got Brisbane and the 3 major regional population centres covered.

Because if you are going to limit Brisbane to just 2 NRL teams that service a 25km radius, then you need to take games to the outskirts for people who have difficulty accessing Lang Park.

Not everyone can make the long and hectic trip to Lang Park from Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay and Redland, but would like to see high quality football. Some people have medical conditions that make a long trip from these areas to Lang Park dangerous. I know as I am one of them. From my experience of attending Queensland Cup games, there are plenty of RL fans who have a serious medical condition. We shouldn't be locking these people out from attending live games. The disabled and elderly who have trouble walking long distances and sleep disturbances are just as important as the able bodied and young people who can get by on just a few hours sleep after getting stuck in the piss at Lang Park and pub.

I like your thinking here but have a few points of contention:-

Is there really much difference in moving Wynnum to Redlands? I know it’s not my neck of the woods but I always considered everything east of the Gateway/Mt Cotton Road a distinct and insular locality/community that see themselves that way. Also, would there be anywhere that would have the same facility as Kougari? I can only think of Junior clubs down further...

What is wrong with having the Tweed a part of our competition? They are so much closer to us and live a part of the greater SEQ community (I actually think they should be in our state). Plus the area is a huge League nursery and I doubt NSWRL would look after it any better- they’ve proven to be extremely Sydney centric. I spend most of my weekends down that way and despite some parochial push back, I do think the locals see themselves closer to here too.

Finally, 100% on Souths to move to Logan. Being a foundation club (of sorts) would it not be a good nod to the past in maintaining the “Magpies”? The scorpz sounds cooler and it did originally represent the community, but it was really for a flash in the pan (put it this way, they existed for 15 years and have been gone for 18 years). Also, where would you have them play out of- Meakin Park??

Again, I like where you were going, the two points are just my questions of it

Yeah, fair call about market share I suppose. And whilst I agree with you that we don't want to make the same mistake in South-East QLD that we did in Sydney, I think four clubs in SEQ in 2050 with the door closed at NRL level for QLD clubs from then on wouldn't be oversaturating the market.

Out of interest, do you think three is a good number in SEQ? Or the current two? I can definately see the argument for three right now, I just think two is not enough. Given three more decades I don't think four would be unreasonable but I would cap it at that.

I'd get rid of Tweed Heads so that room can be made for a team from Toowoomba or Wide Bay. I'd love to see the Clydesdales or Bulls.

Souths were called Carltons and the Lions at one stage. The pocket they're in at the moment is no longer RL country. They could keep the name Magpies, but Scorpions is more marketable. The poor old Logan Scorpions were doomed from the start. The 15 year lease they were forced to sign was astronomical and put them in debt. They had difficulty acquiring a liquor licence in 1988 which put them in further debt and the QRL gave them no chance of assembling a quality roster. Logan City Council treats RL like shit. A former councilor would go door to door bashing the Scorpions in an attempt to get them to elect him back into office.

Meakin Park was handed over to soccer, so it's out of the question. The QRL are working on a lease for land out near Browns Plains.

In a perfect world Wynnum, Wynnum West, Manly and Manly West would be amalgamated into Redland. Redlands Parrots play out of Thornlands at a massive reserve. It would be capable of holding 4 grandstands and a state of the art Leagues Club. Wynnum have played Queensland Cup games there.
