Everyone is going on like us Broncos fans want to play every Friday night.

I'm sick of it. I'd love to go to a home game on a Saturday night, have a few beers at my mates place and head over mid/late afternoon to Suncorp. Just like Reds fans get to do here.

Instead I have to work Friday, get past the f*ckin Suncorp traffic to get home, and by the time I've done this it's too much effort to go to the game.

You do realise you are saying that to someone who is a victorian, lives in victoria and who follows both afl and nrl, I think it's safe to say he would be alot closer to right than you would be on this one.

This part is key, and would place her in the vast minority

The fact remains that most Victorians couldnt give a rats about League and they would not know the Broncos any more than they would the Storm, Sea Eagles or Warriors

If channel 9 started fullfilling their contractual obligations and put the NRL on at a decent hour down there then things might actually change but it is what it is

I doubt many people are saying it is an advantage to the broncos supporters (although you could argue having it at the same time each week would let the fans get into a routine too). The problem is the financial leg up the club gets because of all the extra exposure and the steady routine for players backing up 7 days later each week.

Most Victorians are so insular that they couldn't point out Brisbane on a map
Of course, they could. It's that place just north of the Gold Coast.

The ratings argument doesn't hold too much water. Fact is rugby league supporters in general will watch whatever teams are playing. Even though people complain about having to watch the donkeys go round yet again, they still tune in to friday night footy. For those that aren't prepared to watch whatever gets dished up they'd be the ones already switching their tvs off every time the Donkeys come up. How many casual RL supporters in the Shire, Penrith or Canberra are watching friday night footy currently?
Tough one.I'm strongly in the camp of sharing the exposure but no-one wants to watch a cripple fight.

The article even points out that the Broncos only receive so many Friday nights because they're a Queensland side...

But you yokels will keep on sticking it to us.

So why dont the Titans or Cowboys get more then?

We all know its channel 9 who are doing this and Im pretty sure the majority of us here arnt blaming the Broncos for the situation at all. However, it is giving the Broncos an advantage and it is massively unfair to the sides who get next to no FTA coverage at all.

I've been through this at least 3 times...

Because the Cowboys prefer to play their home games on Saturday. That's practically 12 games sown up right there give or take a few Qld derbies. Their reputation doesn't help either, 4 finals appearances in 17 seasons is hardly the sign of a 'must-see' side.

The GC are the reigning wooden spooners and have only made the finals twice in five years. Again, hardly a must-see side.

Meanwhile, Brisbane have only missed the finals once in 20 years. They play out of the best home ground in Rugby League and attract massive crowds. Of course they're going to get favoured over the other two sides.

And hey, as others are saying we don't want this many Friday night games. We'd much prefer games on Sunday but we've got to fight tooth and nail for that to happen (see Lockyer's farewell).

I dont really follow the AFL anymore.

(good to see you still around btw)

"her" ha ha

The Victorian stupidity belongs in TFC

For many years if you said "Rugby League" to people down here, they would say "Broncos"

Brisbane very much DO have strong brand recognition down here.

Why do you think the Broncos are one of the two Marquee games? They tried with St George, but Brisbane will always be a strong brand down here.

You have to remember, the last time we had adequate FTA coverage down here, Brissbane were dominati g the comp. No matter what you think of Victorians and their media driven insularlarity, they do know who the Brisbane Broncos are.

Conversely, most DNGAF who St George or Souths are.

There are still plenty on here that dont seem to get that fact, but they continue to lay into Broncos fans like its all our fault, and lay sarcastic crap about how unfortunate it is most games are in FTA.

Whats the whinge? Isn;t there 4 teams playing every Friday night? If one of them is Brisbane every week surely that still leaves 3 spots for the other teams to feature on a Friday and then you also have the FTA Sunday coverage. That is 5 teams besides Brisbane that are getting FTA exposure every week. In a 16 team comp that should in theory mean, Brisbane aside, every team has the opportunity to be on FTA once every 3 rounds or 8 times a year. Maybe some clubs need to take a look in the mirror and answer the question why Ch9 don't see them as a marketable commodity to show?
