That wasn't the sole reason I gave.

It's definitely a factor though and it has helped Manly land more Friday night games. Melbourne haven't received as much luck due to their location more than anything else.

And you can hold onto your theory. Personally, I believe some clubs are always going to rate more than others and are better advertisements of our game by and large than others.

First comment: No. People have previously tabulated onfield success v television appearances and have demonstrated there is only slight correlation. Some teams will always appear on TV regardless of how they are performing, others will never appear on TV regardless of how well they are doing.

Your second comment: Obviosuly some teams are always going to rate better, I'm not saying that they won't. The Broncos for instance have essentially an entire state supporting them - of course that translates to more people watching them on TV. However, the discrepancy between teams will continue to grow while certain teams get FTA and others don't. That is my point. Penrith will never have the fan base the Broncos have but it might be a bit more even if they got half the games on FTA that the Broncos get.

Not to mention that FTA exposure translates to more attractivness to thrid party sponsors = better buying power for elite players = more onfield success. I in no way blame the Broncos for this (though I resent having them as my only FNF option week in week out). But surely any reasonable person realises that this is something that the NRL need to address in the new TV deal.

1st: We're just arguing semantics then. You say a little, I say it's more than just that. Ratings may play apart but if a side is playing good football their chances of receiving FTA exposure increases. Melbourne is the only exception but they're a bit of an anomaly in of themselves.

2nd: You're preaching to the choir. We want changes to the Friday night format and personally I'd love to see the second game moved to a Sunday and just having one game as the game of the round.

However, you're aware why a NSW club doesn't receive as many Friday games as the Broncos right? As I demonstrated earlier, before the introduction of the double header, Brisbane were receiving as little as 4 games a season.

I also believe giving struggling clubs FTA tv could potentially do more harm than good for the code. I don't think it'd be a great look if we saw say Melbourne demolish Penrith 80-0 and it certainly wouldn't help Penrith any. By the same token, if we had games like Cowboys/Titans R1 populating FTA tv I could see sponsors being turned off by the product.

As much as I hate the merkins, even I would go to a few more Broncos games if they were on Sunday arvo, don't really care if it's at 2 or 3. The whole place is too big a shitfight on Friday nights for my liking

Using figures from 6, 7 years ago to substantiate what argument?

Bottom line is they've got too much of a monopoly now and that's the key.

In most cases people don't care what day the Broncos play so much as the fact that the club is the only one at present with an advantage over others - in the fact they play EVERY SEVEN DAYS (except R7 -> 8 where it's 14). That allows routine, that allows methodic training schedule etc.

Surely that's an advantage instead of adjusting to short or long turnarounds each week...

Classic Timmah logic there - rely on pushing an argument based on a perceived advantage, and ignore data that suggests there is an actual disadvantage to Brisbane getting so many Friday night games.

Another advantage for the Broncos in playing every Friday night is that in most cases, the team they are playing against would have had a 5 or 6 day turnaround compared to their 7.

Melbuorne, Canberra, NZ are the losers. And given these games are chosen 6 weeks in advance, good form doesnt hold. Saints won the comp in 10 and got the first 6 or so FNF games in 11. I cannot remember the last Raiders or Warriors FNF game.

I dont mind the Friday format, but ffs seeing the same team over and over and f*cking over again is ridiculous.

YEah? What year was that?

Still better than the Raiders or Warriors, or the Cowboys back then. Anyway, nothing has changed for them - only your mob benefit.

You do know the last side to score 80 points was the Roosters in May 1935. We were the last side to score 70 and that was about 8 years ago. If the FTA games were picked on the quality of the matchup, there would not be that problem.

What data? The advantage is real you gimp.

Brisbane scored 70 against Newy not so long ago. Amazingly it wasn't on a Friday night.

It's a reference to the red rage that descends into his field of vision whenever he sees the words "Broncos" or "Queensland".

Someone give juro a special medal. It only took him 9 pages to work out his point was at the heart of this issue.
