Just watched FSN and Rusty has come out and said the same thing with the addition of something along the lines of "If you have a business franchise and 14 of the 16 franchises don't make a profit do you expand?".

If the Brisbane team or a Perth team by themselves brings in an extra $40mill that is $2.2mill/club extra (including the 2 new expansion teams).

Sometimes you need to invest/take calculated risk/expand in order to become even more successful. Done right and for the correct price there is no weakness or stupidity in expanding the game while other clubs are struggling.

It is the new clubs in the right areas that grow the market, exposure and bring more $$ into the game that can help out some of the older clubs who are now suffering from a National competition rather than the NSWRL cup of old.

Rusty and Searle are just looking after their own interests instead of the games, something which has hurt the potential of RL in Australia for far too long.

Seconded this.

Not knowing the geography of Brisbane/Ipswich, would the two bids be largely targeting the same area from which to draw their supporter base?

Do Ipswich propose to play out of Suncorp or build/upgrade a stadium in Ipswich?

Well, sort of. Ipswich is targeting the areas around Ipswich - Springfield - Logan, the most southerly outer suburb areas of Brisbane which are projected for huge population growth. Ipswich plan on having their own version of Skilled Park built in Springfield, but playing 2-3 big matches a year at Suncorp. It would be a memberships based club model.

The new Brisbane bid will be more of a "Brisbane II", but intends to be based South of the River and be a kind of mirror of the Broncos to the North. They intend on being a private ownership model playing out of Suncorp.

Both would work but would be very different.

Yet you support the Bears bid? That doesn't make sense. The Bears are really just another NSWRL licence wasting $$$ and growth potential inter-state.

In your opinion maybe, but go ahead with that thinking, i've given up trying to convince people whose thoughts and beliefs on expansion doesn't mean anything.

Thanks, I was starting to think they were effectively the same bid run by different consortiums ie if they were both to play out of Suncorp.

THE prospect of a second NRL team in Brisbane has taken a hit, with champion Queensland coach Wayne Bennett saying he wouldn't support the new consortium's bid.
The seven-time premiership winner had been mooted as a potential coach of the franchise, which is aiming to enter the NRL as soon as the 2013 season.
But Bennett, who is off contract at the St George Illawarra Dragons at the end of 2011, quickly ended any speculation that he could be interested in the fledgling concept.
In fact, the idea of having another Brisbane team to rival his beloved Broncos doesn't appeal to the 60-year-old supercoach at all.
``No, it wouldn't be my choice,'' Bennett said.
When pressed on what location he would recommend the NRL pursue, Bennett kept his thoughts to himself.
``I've got lots of preferences (for where the next expansion team should be) but no one is going to take a lot of notice of that, so we won't talk about it today,'' Bennett said.

If Searle does get his way then Perth is absolutely no hope.

I've heard him talk Perth down as an expansion option on several occasions.

Brisbane definitely needs a 2nd team. Just not sure of the timing of when to put them in. Only one team in Brisbane in ridiculous. If a 2nd Brisbane team comes it it should be "South Brisbane".

And I have to laugh at the CQ bid cheif and others that say "yeah but there's a lot of competition in Brisbane with A-League, AFL, Super 15's" - I say: who gives a stuff about the other codes? If anything, it shows how embarrsingly under-represented Rugby League is in SEQ where it is supposed to be the number 1 code. If anything, it tells me we should ADD more teams in SEQ to match the popularity of the game in SEQ. If anyone is going to suffer from the competition then let it be the other codes - time for Rugby League to show who is number 1.

You are absolutely spot on there mate.

RL in the number one code in QLD yet Brisbane has only one team to say it's underepresented is a understatement it's a joke from the get-go there should of being plans to include a 2nd Brisbane after the Broncos settled in there early years. Sure there was the Crusher but Super-league and bad results hamper them and eventually led to there demise but there should of being another attempt at a Brisbane team later on to ensure a game in Suncorp is played every week.

AFL has 2 teams in Sydney yet Brisbane has 1 team in NRL that's pathetic.

I find Logan being included silly for the Ipswich bid. I mean of course the bid team is going to do it because Ipswich is too small to have a team on its own at this stage - and will be far another decade at least. But if you're going to stretch it out to Logan, then they might as well drop the Ipswich thing because its essentially a Brisbane II bid.

Do residents from Logan really see themselves as connected to Ipswich in anyway?

Loganholme is almost twice as close to Brisbane CBD as it is to Ipswich.

Brisbane 2 makes much more sense, though I'm not opposed to a team west of Brisbane - it's just that that's what it should be - a team west of Brisbane representing Ipswich to Toowoomba, not including the southern suburbs of Brisbane. There are better bids out there at the moment and simply not the population to support this team - maybe in 15 years - but not now.

Hopefully eventually we have 4 teams in SEQ when the population is around 4 million (expected within 20 years):

Brisbane North
Brisbane South
Gold Coast
Ipswich

I think Bennett knows a thing or two about these "brisbane businessmen".

I also think Bennett knows what is good for the game and what is not.

He should considering he accepted large amounts of money from these "brisbane businessmen" in the past.

Enlighten us, why don't you tell us what Bennett knows about the businessmen involved in the bid. Or perhaps you needn't tell us on these boards every single thought that you have.

We are well aware that you are a proponent of the CC bid. If you seek to imply that a second Brisbane side would not be good for the game then you are only doing yourself discredit.

If you had a look at my previous post on the matter of a second Brisbane team (not an Ipswich team) you would see that i am in favour of having a second Brisbane team.

you would of also seen that i am waiting more information about this bid before forming an opinion on the matter.

Rugby League most definitely needs a second brisbane team. When, who and how? are the questions.

At the moment very little is known about the bid, they are lacking in some areas but that is expected by a young bid.
