With a 10-a-side sport, therefore with some forwards looking for a contract, maybe we could bring in 4 new teams. Central Coast Bears, South Queensland Crushers, Western Reds and the Southern Orcas (Wellington and Christchurch, 5 matches each, NRL should be a 20 match season).

has anyone here who is supporting the central qld bid, actually been there?
there is basically nothing there.

rocky, gladstone and bundy are not exactly big places, nth qld has both townsville and cairns, which have grown incredibly. are larger , so is ipswich the sunshine coast and toowoomba.
burleigh had premierships in the qld cup under there belt before the titans came in
the central comets haven't won a qld cup yet?
just because it produces some great players and is backed by mining money doesn't mean it should get an nrl side.
whats next alice springs and albury/wodongo chucking in bids?

The sooner that the comission is set up the better to know the plan for expansion in the future and the structure of the competition and the tv deal given 7,9 and 10 all want the rights plus fox and sky nz.
Here are the teams bidding for nrl licences in possible:
Central Coast, Perth, Ipswich, Central Queensland, Brisbane 2, Png and nz south island.
Now in the future where would more expansion come from Possible sunshine coast, adelaide and 2nd melbourne team.
They need to show there plans now people mat say bullsh*t but let's have a tentative timeline.
2013: Perth and the bears 2015: nz south island, ipswich, brisbane 2 2018: png, CQ 2020 adelaide, 2nd melbourne team

I think they would have to tier it much like NFL and now like super rugby

Northern league: Broncos, titans, png, CQ, Ispwich, brisbane 2, sushine coast, cowboys.
Central League: CC, Manly, west tigers, parra, penrith, souths, roosters, dogs, sharks, cronulla, saints.
southern league: Canberra, melbourne, 2nd melbourne, perth, adelaide, warriors, nz south island.

Now this may take a while but a plan please gallop.

Amen to that!

I don't care so much what the order is.. I just want to see a timetable of when each stage of expansion will be!

Get a plan NRL!!!!!

Half of those sides you want to expand to you will never see the light of day.

PNG will never be in the NRL.
Wellington nope
2nd Melbourne nope.
Adelaide nope.
Sunshine Coast nope

I know there is a saying to never say never but I don't believe any of the above will see the light of day.

However I can see 4 teams coming in and making it a 20 team league.

Central Coast
Perth
2nd Brisbane team
One of either Ipswich or Central Qld. One or the other there won't be both.

I live in Bundy and I'm astounded the CQ bid is being talked up. It's not as if these places are next to each other, Rocky is nearly as far from Bundaberg as Brisbane (400km). On top of that are the lack of facilities and corporate sponsorship. I also don't think you're looking at a huge nursery of players in the local comps.

we have arguably only enough player depth to field 2 extra teams in 2013 , certainly not 4
with the ESL no longer the pot at the end of the golden rainbow .. with the GFC hitting hard in the UK , we'll have plenty of ex pat aussies & some pommies playing in the super league too who will come here to play with existing sides that lose talent to the 2 new sides or play for the new sides themselves ... but its not a bottomless pit & 4 sides would be ridiculous & would stretch the talent pool too far affecting the overall standard of the NRL.

the lunatic fringe attempting to take over the asylum again
4 new teams in 2013
what a joke :crazy::crazy::crazy:

If Brisbane II gets their sh*t sorted then I feel they will be too hard to ignore. This will trump the Ipswich bid easily as Ipswich is an unfashionable area and building a stadium there is pointless when you have the best RL stadium in the country 40 min up the road being under utilised.

Bennet is just being loyal to the broncos and a 2nd brisbane team may raise questions over his legacy their...

Well the smartest person here, BunniesMan, suggests 2 teams in 2013 and 2 teams in 2015. That's the correct solution.

If you had a look at my previous post on the matter of a second Brisbane team (not an Ipswich team) you would see that i am in favour of having a second Brisbane team.

you would of also seen that i am waiting more information about this bid before forming an opinion on the matter.

Rugby League most definitely needs a second brisbane team. When, who and how? are the questions.

At the moment very little is known about the bid, they are lacking in some areas but that is expected by a young bid.

Well if that is the case then you would disagree with Wayne Bennett about the issue of expansion.

Truth is you don't know anything about what Wayne Bennett thinks or believes is good for the game as he simply doesn't give his opinion away lightly.

Have to say, I was indifferent about the Central Coast, thought as another NSW club, probably was not the go.

Then they want to steal North Sydney's mascot, like VFL did the Fitzroy Lions.

Far from keen, would be happy enough If CC got a team, but as a recycled club, no. CC should be thier own, not North Sydney.

But the posters here who would seem to sell thier children to get North Sydney's mascot at the Central Coast have really made me oppossed to it in a big way.

Now I know they will start on a club that have existed for 40 odd years, and continue to be there, they will crap on until the cows come home about how the Central Coast want to be North Sydney, plans, sponsors , yada yada.

My point being is I was indifferent, leaning towards no for CC, now I really do hope they do not succeed, due too posters here, who want to steal North Sydney's History, they are like VFL fans to me, South Melbourne Swans, Fitzroy Lions.

I would support CC, but not as the Bears.

Flame away about the club that continues to exist, has sponsors, owns it ground, never was some one elses club.

Are you an idiot?

If Brisbane wants to claim the home of Rugby League then having a match at Suncorp more than just every 2nd week makes total sense, in fact I don't know how it couldn't.

I think if we were to use the AFL model of expansion. Which is to find a strategic area and manufacture a team in that area with the financial support of the league, eg. GWS and GC. I think Perth and a Qld team would be the choices. They are strategically the best locations for new teams.

But we're not using that system. We're inviting bid's from any area and allowing clubs to grow and support themselves. That's why at this stage you can't count out the Central Coast. They've put togethor what I understand is an very impressive bid, and while I don't think they're strategically the best choice in terms of area, they are at this stage the strongest club amongst the contenders.

It will be hard for the new bids to reach the momentum and strength of the bears, but I believe of the Qld bids at this stage Brisbane 2 seem to have the backing and momentum to do the best of the contenders. If the Brisbane 2 bid can get within striking distance of the bears, I think their strategic strength might just take them past the Central Coasters. Which is a shame for the hard work that's been put in by the bears, but may be an unfortunate reality.

Long way to go though.

I think Perth is the obvious first choice.

You realize the very community of the Central Coast support the Bears brand and have taken the BEARS brand as their own now? If they, locals support it and want it to happen. Then why can't you, a non-local, accept a Central Coast Bears? The Bears are part of the Central Coast community and the Central Coast community is part of the BEARS.

That may be true and as sympathetic to the Bears as I am I don't think there should be a CC team when you have a sh*tload of Sydney teams just to the south and Newcastle just to the north. Unless a Sydney team relocates to Gosford it shouldn't happen even if two of them merge and one moves to Perth.

If we're going to do this expansion thing right then CC would have to be behind Perth and another Queensland team and probably behind Adelaide.
