Brisbane3 - What is needed to make it a successful bid?

Newscorp outlets have been gushing over the prospect of the "Western Bears" coming into the NRL - ironically, given the Newscorp-pushed drive to reduce the competition to 14 teams was a big factor in losing the Bears & Reds after the war - pretty much billing it as a dead cert to be part of the next expansion phase.

Meanwhile the same outlets have been pretty muted about another Brisbane expansion team, reporting about Newtown & Ipswich getting together but none of the hype that the return of the Bears in a new frontier has been getting.

Funny, huh?
Not much to be excited about though, it's like they are waiting for a rival suitor, maybe easts to kick up a stink... Bears was always newsworthy, even if they seemed hopeless about how they went about trying to return... now they are, Jets not so much, they left the comp in 1983, they weren't forced out like most of the other clubs were by the 2000s with the mergers/cullings.. there has never been an appetite to see them return to top flight, not like the bears, rams or reds

I think a union of Ipswich and Newtown based solely on the fact they are both called Jets is nonsensical.
Easts and Ipswich is a better merger. Or even if Ipswich could source some funding from somewhere and go it alone that could also work.
Easts replacing News Ltds ownership in the Broncos would be a good move for the sport too.

2 cents - In the foreseeable future there’s no chance Easts replace News Ltd in Broncos ownership. That doesn’t mean a corporation won’t/couldn’t replace News Ltd but it won’t be Easts.

Before anyone tries to bring up the Leagues Club scenario. Easts Leagues were brought in a few years ago to help Broncos Leagues steady the ship and assist in reorganising their back of house. Essentially, Easts Leagues acted as consultants to Broncos Leagues in this manner. Nothing more.

As for Easts/Ipswich - it has been mentioned a few times that it doesn’t make much sense although there was a rushed attempt in mid-2021 via Jets, Easts and Bombers Consortium unifying bids in a late attempt to hop over Dolphins bid. Ultimately it failed.

Souths/Easts/Wynnum makes much more sense from the point that Easts are already heavily involved in Souths Logan territory via school rugby league programs and having established junior or affiliated clubs within Logan catchment. Seagulls also have a couple junior clubs in the same catchment.

However there’s no correlation between Ipswich and Easts that exists. The catchments couldn’t be more different from either commercial, footy and social perspectives. Not to say it couldn’t or wouldn’t work but there would need to be a considerable amount of leg work done to establish clear foundations where Ipswich Jets wouldn’t be lost to the “commercially” superior Easts Tigers.

Ipswich has a decent size nursery and the regional area is growing rapidly. Jets own their fields and have their own facilities albeit subpar. There’s things to work with and build up from but they desperately require proper resources ie money, to bring the best out of them. Easts could provide it but I’m not sold that they would 100% commit to relocate their potential fulltime NRL base of operations and set up academy’s out west in Ipswich. But who knows, I could be way off in my opinion.

The idea of Brisbane Easts owning the Broncos (or at least having a sizable minority share) would IMO be a positive for the game - not only does it bring their resources & know-how to the table, but it also resolves the branding issue that's confounded the Brisbane Easts bid in the past, encourages the Broncos to skew their reach to Souths/Wynnum & Logan which Red&Black Bear mentions... AND clears the way for the 4th SE-Qld team to be Westward facing & Ipswich-based.

So basically you'd have:
South/East (Broncos)
North (Dolphins - maybe the odd game in Sunshine Coast until they reach size for their own NRL team - if they get to that stage)
West (Presumably Jets)
& Gold Coast (Titans)

It can be looked at in two different ways.

Commercial Growth:
Brisbane 3
Ipswich
Sunshine Coast
Central Queensland

Capitalising on Population Growth:
Ipswich
Sunshine Coast
Brisbane 3
Central Queensland

My personal preference is Ipswich followed by Sunshine Coast and then Brisbane 3 but unsure exactly where in Brisbane unless it’s central as well. Central Queensland is a magnificent and true rugby league heartland but there’s too many factors that make it difficult to set up a genuine NRL club or any other full time professional sports club there in the foreseeable future.

Cool story, wasn’t what was asked.

It’s almost as if you don’t have any idea about the local geographical identities within SE Qld and Wikipedia is your point of reference.

Wikipedia is referenced from abs. Population of Brisbane is 2.5 million and includes councils of Morton bay, Logan, redland & yes, Ipswich.

Brisbane 3 won't be strictly Ipswich. Will be based at Springfield & encompass Logan as well.

Logan has nothing to do with Ipswich.

It’s almost like you don’t live in Sth Qld and don’t understand the local geographical identities but somehow Wikipedia has made you think you’re an expert on the matter. Good for you squirt.

Abs define what is Brisbane.

East Tigers, western corridor bid & Brisbane Bombers all included Logan with Ipswich in their prospective catchment.

The above has been explained ad nauseam. There is a post explaining this only 5/6 replies above.

Furthermore you’re referencing something that was rushed (not properly thought through and only created as a last ditch attempt to beat out Dolphins). Perhaps you missed the last 6 months of revised bids pertaining to South Qld.

serious question which one of you two in pips and redbears actually live in south qld. I got a feeling this is just like the nz2 thread where
none of the big opinionated expansionista experts actually live in the regions they claim to be experts on..

I live here.
fair enough bears, so am I rights to assume there’s brissy and there’s also greater brissy region howevwr outside having brissy in the same there’s no genuine correlation locally between ippy locals to logan locals to wynnum locals to say some bloke or shiela who live in stafford or something?

@Pippen94 do you live in brissy? Or surrounding areas?
