Bromwich & Proctor - alleged to have bought cocaine after test

Todd Greenberg is having an easy time compared to what his predecessor, David Gallop, had to put up with in regard to player behaviour off the field.

That generation of players was very, very hard work.

Just found Bromwich's out.
Addicted to pain killers after thumb issue early in season, exasibated by Thiaday twisting it and whispering "if it ain't white it ain't right" (clearly in reference to cocaine!!!) :)

Melbourne Storm statement from CEO Dave Donaghy

Earlier today, our Football Director Frank Ponissi and I spoke to Jesse Bromwich regarding a matter that took place following the ANZAC Test in Canberra on Friday night.

Jesse was extremely remorseful for putting himself in a position of risk that has obviously had an impact on his Club – despite being on international duties.

He is genuinely disappointed by his poor choices and he’s accepted a number of sanctions that have been imposed upon him by the Club for breaching our code of conduct.

Melbourne Storm has extremely high standards and we make no apologies for that – this has been a tough lesson for Jesse.

In handing down these sanctions Melbourne Storm has consulted Jesse’s management, the RLPA and the NRL Integrity Unit.

The sanctions are as follows:

· Jesse will be stood down for two games – he won’t be available for selection until Round 13

· Jesse will donate his ANZAC Test match fee to a selected charity

· Jesse has stood aside from the Storm leadership group and I believe has informed New Zealand of his intention to step down as the Kiwis’ captain

· Jesse will be required to undergo a number of counselling and treatment courses

Jesse had the opportunity to front the board regarding this matter, however, he’s chosen to waive this and accept the sanction.

Jesse is a terrific person, this is out of character and he’s incredibly disappointed in himself, however he will learn from it and we will continue to support him and his family.

Statement from Jesse Bromwich

I’d like to start by firstly apologising to my family, Melbourne Storm, New Zealand Rugby League, the NRL, my teammates, the sponsors, and the members and fans.

I regret making the choice of staying out with my teammates until the early hours of Saturday morning, as well as consuming an excessive amount of alcohol.

I take full responsibility for the poor choices I made, I am devastated and my actions were out of character.

Playing footy for Melbourne Storm and the Kiwis is a great honour and I apologise for letting down everyone involved in both organisations.

I will be stepping down from my leadership roles with Melbourne Storm and the Kiwis, I understand I am a role model to the young players and the poor choices I made do not reflect my personal values.

I fully accept the sanctions that have been handed down.

CEO Graham Annesley has today spoken with the media in relation to the incident involving Kevin Proctor in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Summary:
- Stood down playing until board makes it decision.
- Stripped as co-captain
- Issued breach notice
- Attending a board meeting

- Why where they allowed out so late, why lack of supervision?
- Later in week will have made decision.
- Kevin upset about situation (not sanctions), but reflection on himself, sponsors, let people down etc.
- Will affect the team.
- Ref football important, clubs need to let players represent, but care needs to be at same level as clubs.
- Termination asked, couldnt comment.
- No charges yet and unlikely, its about the code of conduct.

Well considering Kidwell shows absolutely no coaching ability, the least he could do is secure the boys a safe source for their lines. Fail. He has to go.

Don't let him stand down, sack him instead. His Kiwis days should be over. The NRL might be a bunch of soft-cocks but there's no reason for the NZRL to follow suit. What's that quote - "I'd rather have higher morals and finish last" or something. If Kidwell is serious about "the culture we're trying to build" etc then this is the prime opportunity to make a significant statement.

Why where they allowed out so late, why lack of supervision?
Seriously Titans?? Adults need supervision at all hours or they'll run off and do shit like this at the first opportunity? Make them grow a pair and take responsibility for their own actions ffs.

Worse crime imo is being blind drunk enough to 'not remember' taking cocaine in the middle of a season.

You can't justify it like that tho..

2 totally different types of things.

Bromich, in particular, was a role model as kiwi captain.. what he did is actually worse than Proctor or SKD because of his position.

I'm with leaguenut. . Sack the bastards..

I have been that plastered, that I once forgot taking speed till a few days later. Earlier on that day I had a bad knock to the head during a league game but I dont think I was concussed cos I kept playing on. I dont know if thats actually what happened with Bromwich but I have had an experience like that before.

Geez thats a bit harsh there legs. We are talking one of the best props here, sure he made a mistake that you don't see with sports leaders but I think if he cleans himself up and puts together solid NRL games, he's going to be hard to deny. Because when Jessie Bromwich is good, he's the best. It'll be interesting to see how he bounces back from this. Does he use this disgrace as motivation to play even better and earn back the respect of the fans?

why??? Sorry, but if you allow Packer to play why would you not allow people who made a mistake, were caught, and what they did is victimless?

And LOL at deadshit Lowie coming out and making out like every person that's worn the Kiwi's jersey has been such a stellar contributing member of society - f**king joke, beyond funny.

I don't know nor have I met Bromwich or Proctor, but am not aware of any history, it seems a relatively minor and stupid thing - life bans? LMAO

100%, its a line of charlie ffs, he didn't bash anybody or endanger anybody's life. Fine him, stand him down for a few games, strip his captaincy for the season and move on.

Agreed. Lose leadership roles and make them sweep the dressing rooms for the rest of their international careers.

Sacking them is way over the top. This is silly crap they have done - not violent or dangerous or derogatory (to anyone else).
