Bromwich & Proctor - alleged to have bought cocaine after test

Just watched Ikin's interview with Jesse Bromich on NRL 360. Bromich says he spoke to David Kidwell the next day and offered to resign the captaincy and to withdraw from the World Cup as well as donate his match fee to charity. He says that Kidwell asked him not to go public as he, Kidwell, wanted to announce it.

Then this:

"League: Kiwis duo Kevin Proctor and Jesse Bromwich unavailable for selection for Rugby League World Cup
5:04 PM Monday May 8, 2017

I've made the decision, with the backing of the NZRL, that Jesse Bromwich and Kevin Proctor will not be considered for the upcoming World Cup campaign," said Kiwis coach David Kidwell.

"We have values to uphold, and I can't express enough that they have broken my trust, and their teammates' trust. No-one is bigger than the team" said Kidwell.

New Zealand Rugby League are 100 per cent behind this decision," said chief executive Alex Hayton."

Sounds to me like Kidwell is trying to suggest the decision to suspend the players was his. Sounds like he is trying to sound strong. Can the players respect him with this double talk going on?
What a sad guy lol. Kidwell aye... hes bound to have his haters in the team now. I dont know if the Storm players he picks will have his 100% respect.

Kidwell in the slump hes in should've at least stood next to Jessie and let him make the announcement about stepping down. He should've had his captains back because this right here, IMO makes Kidwell look worse as a coach on so many levels. Team Kiwis? LOL. They suppose to be a team but Kidwell sounds like he was looking out for his own back when shit hit the fan.

Standing right next to someone doesn't mean you condone their behaviour, Kidwell couldve followed Jessies announcement with HIS thoughts. Those who notice Kidwell going through hardship and standing by Bromwich, may have cut him some slack but hes too dumb to see the RESPECT bus and missed it all together. In times of trouble it at least pays to be there to show some support or direction, look at the prime minister everytime theres a disaster. Or more league specific - Doyle when his big signing Foran pulled a hammy. At least the players and his bosses wouldve seen and respected him for that but now...

Kidwell trying to paint himself out to be a tough taskmaster and upholder of values - which to be fair, a couple of media outlets ran with.

Trouble is, his players won't buy it. Bromwich's name holds more sway in that environment than Kidwell's, and if he's lost the players aint no PR in the world going to save him. I'd say he's f**ked already, 5 months out from the tournament.

I just don't think the guy is that smart. In fact I think he's exactly what he was as a player. All passion and no subtlety. Will soon be walking the same plank he sent Kemble down.

Apparently Bromwich blamed South Auckland.

There goes any last shred of credibility, what an idiot.

Admittedly I read the transcript of what he said, not 360 itself...but wow, sounds like Jesse just should've shut up, apologised and got on with footy. Not this 'I grew up around drugs' 'I don't remember anything' and freely admitting he got straight on the turps after the game. Don't try and explain it, we know. And we're not sympathetic.

The attitude of getting on the turps proves it was a holiday for those guys. I didn't play professional sport, but to a premier club level as many of us did. When you lost, especially a big game, you weren't interested in a beer. And definitely not if you were captain, it hurt too much...the beer wouldn't have tasted any good. So clearly no pain, ie no pride for those who chose to get on it.

A truism for sure. Our last cricket semi I bowled brilliantly, felt Rubin Wiki in his 'never-ending' retirement in September 2008, then when it came to the run chase I got jagged for a duck at the top of the order, and we crumbled.

Two sour, flat-tasting beers before heading home.

Such a contrast to even a standard win during the season.

Being received well in Oz - seen as fronting up & honest...only here do we feel the need to shoot a guy while he's down :(
It's what he does here on in that matters.

True, but to be fair Australians aren't on the end of dickings every year. It's us. We suffer through those shit performances, then our captain goes out, gets absolutely obliterated (when he should've been back at the hotel) and takes an illicit substance, ie breaks the law.

So yeah, shoot while he's down? No sympathy here. Just shut up, say sorry I f**ked up and we'll forgive soon enough. That's fronting up. And as you say, what he does from here is all that matters. Not excuses/his life story.

Following my earlier rant on this thread about coaches backing their players through thick and thin - Craig Bellamy who DOES NOT condone drugs, supported both Proctor and Bromwich through what they've done. I was suprised and happy to read that as it was in support of what I was saying earlier and from a good coach too in Bellamy. Players want to play for that kind of a coach. No I dont want a medal although it might sound like it. Just sayin.

Its not right for Jessie given hes kiwi captain but Im in no position to judge. I know what Jessies talking about when he speaks of South Auckland. Ive seen alcohol, drugs in changing rooms after games. Ive played and drank with dealers, knuckleheads, murderers and rapists. While its no excuse, I know why drugs doesnt seem like a big deal to some given the environment they grew up in.

Zero, I hope you're being straight with us. It'd be disappointing if you were really just a branch manager or accountant from the North Shore...:D:oops:

Jesse was always a good kid growing up, played with him when he was in the 15s and me in the 16s...the lads always drank hard even at that age, and there was plenty of other stuff around too, but the majority of the boys loved their footy...the team that won the Auckland Under 17s which he was a part of were the most hardworking bunch of lads Id seen up until that point...he was around it but never as far as I know drawn into it though the temptation was always understandably there.

That being said, hes not 16 anymore, hes a professional footballer playing for the best club in the world and captain of his country. They were belted and he f**ked up, he made his bed. The right decision was made.

For the Storm and Titans to blame the Kiwis for adult men's decisions is ridiculous, though Kidwell seems to be slipping very quickly into 07 territory.

Lets hope they sort it out by October.

Sooooo

Adam Blair named captain, and a booze ban through parts of the tournament announced as well.

After publicly announcing that, the public will be watching them like hawks trying to catch someone out

... and judging from the past I bet it won't take long to find some boys on the piss.

Adam Blair was as flat as f-k this weekend so not sure he's a great choice to lead.

Why the need to appoint a captain at this point in the season?

Why can't there be a squad of the best 25 players who happen to be in form picked just before the start of the tournament, and then a skipper selected from that group?

Announcing Blair now guarantees him a spot no matter how bad he might be playing.
