Broncos targeting Jason Demetriou

If the Broncos are really planning on having him take over from Bennett, it doesn't bode well for his ability based on previous experience. Unless the Broncos are doing it without Bennetts input. I mean, supercoach Price and Ivan Henjak, both enthusiastically promoted by Bennett, didn't turn out so well.

Third time lucky...

With respect Coast...we are well advanced in discussions with WINCORP and much further down the track than another re-hashed article from the Mole and RLW would have you believe. As this is a milestone in the JV and NRL licensing models, due diligence from the St George side is ongoing to ensure we end up with the best fit for all. Again, Old Moley is off the mark with this one.
I hope you are right JB.
Every article says we are"well down the track in negotiations".
How far down this bloody track do we have to travel before any good news comes of it.
It appears to outsiders like myself that the club is stalling as much as they can to force Gordon to walk away & then the spin doctors will come out in force to paint the club in a good light & Gordon in a bad light.

This is a good point blacksafake.
If Gordon does take the majority stake, then he will enforce change and given the less than glowing report already released by Mark Coyne, there would be need to put a very large broom through the place. The current hierarchy would fear this with even the prospect of losing their seats.

We all don't know where the talks are at present, what's on the table and what are the long term plans. But one thing we know is that change is urgently required.

NRL is delaying this big time. I bet if it were any other club, the takeover would have been rubber stamped by now. Last I heard is it was up to the NRL to approve the takeover not the Saints board. Sounds like they are ready to go. And as Mole said, once they get rid of the NRL and this stupid debt, Saints can then do alot of their business quicker without the NRL stepping in every time and giving approval.

It would be an utter shambles if he leaves but whilst McGregor is there what choice does he have.

My concern is that McGregor stays to help the takeover rather than detract from it. It would give Gordon a lot more leverage over a failing franchise.

My concern is and always will be however, the survival of the St George brand, logo, and jersey.

Has anyone seen what the terms of this takeover are. Takeovers as they are can lay rules down for movement forward, but as has happened previously, and what has been seen in the business world, the goalposts can always be changed to suit the current mood.

We need to be 200% guaranteed that the name, logo, jersey, and a decent amount of games remain at kograh.

A little off track but I think we all need a little news that is better than losing good coaches and players at the moment

How can I say this without breaching the forum rules......... I have long suspected that the front office isn't really that incompetent. I mean, how could they be? As it appears "The Doc" is smarter than anyone in the Dragons front office.......which makes them very, very stupid. No, I suspect they aren't that incompetent at all but the disastrous position they are leading the club into is drastically reducing the price for a potential private owner to take over who has made certain "arrangements" if he or she can buy the club at a certain price.

I'm so relieved that the St George are doing their due diligence on this deal. They have never failed us before!

So am I.

It will protect our emblem, name, colours and heritage - great news.

Is this really a risk though?

What would be the point of paying off a debt to buy a club and then alienating its entire supporter base by completely re-branding it?

If that was really anyone's intention I'm sure it would be much cheaper (and make a lot more commercial sense) to invest in a brand new club in one of the potential growth areas the NRL is keen to invest in.

Hey mate, I don't think it is but Gordon's demands have been sketchy at best. He's tried on a few 'negotiating ploys' previously and has a history as a shrewd operator. The thing to keep in mind is the new NRL Broadcasting Rights deal that kicks in in 2018. This will equate to each club being paid 130% of each years salary cap (over and above the salary cap) towards Operating Expenses and will certainly assist in getting all clubs in order....even our own. Believe it or not, the due diligence is required to ensure the St George side of the JV doesn't get shafted.

I'm more interested in who's going to replace JD, if and when he heads north to the Broncos. We all know he was the Claytons attack coach only by title when it was convenient for McWreckor to deflect blame.
So I'm guessing it will be all systems go with the same and lame assistants of Young & Hornby trying to mimic Bennetts 2009-11 Dragon attack with the sweep plays minus Boyd, Bmoz, Cooper, Sowie and Gaz......in otherwords we're F.cked
Matt Head might move up to Cutters coach and queue the next old boy for U/20's gravy train coach.
Like Berger paints.....it just keeps on keeping on. The club simply paints over the cracks without fixing the rot.

What I'd like is for any forum members with genuine information about what's going on with the takeover and the club in general to share the details. I don't want to hear that I should trust that everything will be alright just because someone says so based on their secret inside information.

I also don't want to read people making definitive statements about what's going to happen when they are just guessing ( I don't mind educated guesses if it's made clear it's just their take on things).

By all means share your thoughts and lets discuss but I think there is a real risk that without the actual details being shared us fans will be shafted again. We all need to be in a position to consider what the potential impacts on the clubs future may be.

For the record I personally don't believe that our position is as secure or as indispensable as some believe. I also think there is a sound business model for relocating St George and that there is also a sound business model for WIN to concentrate on an Illawarra club. I am not saying these things will happen but I am saying we should not ignore them.

I would have no trouble in Matt Head coaching our First Grade side if Mary is replaced and Demetriou leaves. The Joint Venture had three good teams this year being the Cutters, the Under 20's and the Illawarra S.G. Ball team who all played
attractive attacking football. The Under 20's team came back from a poor start to finish in the Top 4 and played some great games. If Host and Garrick had been available I believe that they would have made the Grand Final.
When Mary was appointed he had no track record whereas Head has at least coached at the Sharks and turned at battling side in to a Top 4 side. When the players talk about Head you can see that he inspires and challenges them and that they greatly respect him as is the case with Demetriou.
Mary is scared to drop non-performing players and does not promote performing lower grade players. I remember watching
Stone, Reddy and Mark Gasnier playing their
initial first Grade games and coaches like
Harry Bath and Norm Provan had the guts to promote good young players who continually lifted the Dragons.
