Bruce Gordon take-over still on .

If Gordon has really offered advertising space instead of cash he is as big a joke as our admin team.

In the absence of Gordon making a serious offer, JV admin will need to develop a plan B.

At present given the debt owed to the NRL, the JV is in danger of losing the licence in the event that the funds are not repaid soon.

The state of play seems to be as follows:

Illawarra is financially unable to stand on its own 2 feet

Gordon is unwilling to further financially support the JV

St.George Leagues Club does not propose to further support the JV

Am guessing that the JV hopes to repay the debt from increased TV revenue whilst keeping its head firmly planted in the sand hoping/expecting the NRL will solve its problems

Zero business acumen and zero effort to recover the situation

Am thinking we have been approaching the problem from the wrong angle

We need to flood the membership of the StG Leagues Club with a view to appointing directors who will :

1) change the makeup of the JV board representation on the StG side to improve the quality of representation

2) increase funding to the JV

Makes business sense to me. Dragons are 4mill in debt to NRL. Gordon offers NRL, NOT DRAGONS, to settle the debt by offering 4 mill in advertising space on WIN. What's wrong with that?

It's sort of an intangible value really. Surely he should offer that at a discounted rate for that much advertising. Also, It would take years to use that advertising up. He should factor in interest. I think Gordon lost a lot of leverage when WIN lost the battle to broadcast NRL. He needs to offer more than 4 million in advertising to pay out 4 million in debt.

Good idea, but you have to wait 3 years before you can vote I believe.

I believe the Titans are also in debt to the NRL, but it doesn't seem to be hampering their build up and operations. We need to stop making excuses for this sad excuse of a club...with about 2 weeks until preseason starts do we have Cutters coach (JD is gone), do we have a high performance medical team (Ayoub resigned with a number of his team), do we have a first grade coach???

The last time a club was to be sold was to have a vote with members not the nrl. Looks to be doust has done it again has sold our club to the nrl with secret deals with location of games and less home games in sydney. Even gordon knows its all over and to late with doust signing with the nrl .Now they own us with more of a bigger debt next year.

Really? Sold the club to the NRL?
I'm keen to know where this has come from and are you by any chance a Leagues Club member?
I am almost certain the way the JV is set up does not give anyone a say other than those directly involved in the JV....and STGRLC did this deliberately to ensure that it was distanced from any negative repercussions of the JV, or should it go belly up. To protect St George, if you will. Red V members do not have any voting rights at all.
But here's a thing...the directors of both boards are appointed by their respective Leagues Clubs. Unless you are the son of a media mogul, then that changes. Maybe if we had enough members to vote at an election.....

Wow the mole is somehow a reliable source again. I guess some of you guys would believe anything as long as it's anti-Illawarra.

St.George leagues has enough money to prop up a stand alone St.George team with games played out of Kogarah and Homebush. Saints should threaten the NRL of going it alone and dumping Illawarra unless they wipe the dept on the proviso that the NRL can choose the board. St.George leagues to take over the Illawarra side of the merger, however the team will now be based in Sydney. Costs need to be reduced. Playing home games at 4 different grounds is killing us financially. There's no other way forward, things need to come to a head one way or another.

Umm the NRL would just respond "Lol and what licence are you going to play with?" St George do not own the licence, and do not have the legal right to just take it and threaten the NRL.

If St George ever came to them and said that, the NRL would just tell them to f**k off and find another competition to play in. If the joint venture was to ever split up, and both sides wanted to run a team, Illawarra is far more likely to get the licence as it has significantly more going for it for the NRL.

Illawarra wouldn't be able to but they would possibly merge with the Sharks.

Imagine that merging with the enemy and totally screwing the Dragons in the process.

The NRL would love the JV to hand back its licence.

The Sydney market would have one less participant leaving Cronulla to control the southern suburbs of Sydney.

Illawarra would struggle to gain approval for a licence as it has never in its pre or post JV history been able to garner sufficient financial and fan support to justify an NRL team slot. They would compete for a licence with the Central Coast, and a second Brisbane team and on present capabilities would fail.

Cannot see Gordon changing his. He has his own business issues and agenda. The licence to him is a pawn in a much bigger game.

Illawarra may be interested in merging wiith Cronulla however I doubt Cronulla would be interested in such a development.

Truth is the local Illawarra competition is quite strong and more appealing to the people of the Illawarra than the NRL. I doubt too many people from the Illawarra would lose much sleep if the JV folded.
