He fill in their for sure but I just don't buy it that he was considered 6 long term. I always though Hook had him down as a future Lock or an edge runner.

Yeah I have no idea what Griffin was actually doing and like to assume he would be at lock. It seems to naturally suit him and we have Maloney and May. Just pointing out that it's plausible, not necessarily probable. To me the idea of threats seems most likely.

Gus saying "My major disappointment is that these boys didn’t take full advantage of the wonderful opportunity this club gave to both of them." Could mean they squandered the opportunity somehow though.

I found that line very interesting. Could be taken a number of ways.

Good point I hope your over that mongrel now.

Maybe Gould is having a subtle dig at the 'party lifestyle' both players seemed to enjoy. Was it interferring with their ability to playe well, rehab injuries, etal ? I like to pin Gould down as ask him 'what he exactly meant ?

It has been whisphered by the media that Cartwright 'was mixing with the wrong crowd here in Sydney' and Gould did mention it during one interview. Moylan has moved to party central at cronulla and Northies, has Cartwright done the same at the glitter strip ?

Gould has a dig at most people who have left the club during his time.

Also if we cant cop NRL players that like to party we are up shit creek, learn to f**king manage it better its part of both Goulds and Griffins job. Hook is the kind of coach that would've cut Johns or Thurston in their mid 20s cause they were too wild(and talented).

And if the Bryce move was because of compassionate grounds why is he taking shots at him as if it was somehow footy related. The club is full of shit I don't believe a word Gus utters anymore.

Really ? I can't recall any: Gould is normally generous in his words about players when they chose to moved on. (much to my personal angst)

Yes you do need to 'manage' players lifestyle and behaviour choices, but there also must be a line in the sand.

We will never know the exact circumstances of what happened.

It really is a terrible shame Cartwright didnt make the most of the opportunity to be our backup 5/8th in between being a second rower and then being demoted to the bench.

His bench demotion was fine considering his injury. But after being our man of the match against Sea Eagles and having signed Maloney, Hook still had him training at 6 and was looking at giving him limited minutes from thr bench.

I think he did make the most of the opportunities given... Titans are just giving him a much better one.

Moylan I think its much more reasonable to say threw away a legitimate opportunity. He was our captain. He was our longterm 6. He had the hottest young half in the competition partnering him... and I believe had they found form together they would have been Origin halves together for a few years.

Although its not like he has thrown away a great opportunity for a bad one. Sharks have a better coach than us and are looking to rebuild around him. But i personally hope he regrets it. Sick of watching our guys go to Sharks and being great for them.

It would be so sweet to see him regret it. Can't wait till our first game against them.

Agree. I have a very simplistic view on players, whilst ever they wear the PP colours, they can do no wrong, when they leave, I buy voodoo dolls and stick pins in them.:p:p

I think your right about Moylan. Cartwright I don't think will every reach the heights of his predications due to his ankle injury being so bad: He's basically one ankle injury away from a loss of his career.

Also how do you get you mind around what happened in 2017. Much of it was his own doing, but the're must be fallout from it. It must play tricks with your mind.

They suggest the club was never expecting him to kick on. But how the f**k could he when the coach wouldn't let him develop in his natural position? He shouldnt be wasting time training to play half

If we lost a half mid game. Fair enough. Put him at 6 for the remainder. But this was going to be his third season under Hook and he has spent more time at 6 than anywhere else. What chance did he ever have? Take Yeo or CHN and dump them at 6... I guarantee they struggle more than Cartwright ever did.

I agree that he should of been coached to run hard and offload 2nd. But sometimes players need a change. Unsure why coach had him train at 5/8 unless plan was to force him out of club. He was bringing bad press.

All in all you have let go two talented guys who are excellent to watch.
But they arent the hard nosed tough bullies you need in the NRL. You meed a grub, Maloney fits thst bill. Hopefully JFH or Kikau can play with aggression and mongrel. Something Moylan or Cartwright lack.

My guess is our backup halves options were:

May - Coming off an ACL injury. Will be rusty for a while you would think.
Luai - Reserve grader for now. Lots of question marks

Carty is Hooks 'safe' choice. He has the talent of a 6... and if he plays poorly its easy for him to be blamed as he's out of position.

His typically played as an extra forward when Moylan was fullback so it sort of worked for us. But really that was slways a case of players doing other players jobs.

Training him at 6... he was in for another poor season if he stayed. His rep career was definitely overbefore it began. He never plays 6 for NSW or Australia. He really was left with no choice.

He is always taking very subtle digs at people. And yes you cant just let players do what they want but lets look at Moylan, a lot has been 'leaked ' about him being off the rails etc but in 2016 at the start of the year he was such a model player that we made him captain and face of the club 25, that means they had great respect and belief in him as a person and player. By the end of the next season he is gone and apparently has been off the rails and taking the piss at training for 12 months or more. He is not a bad egg or wild child or anything even close to it, he was the perfect NRL player s far as image and behaviour goes until Griffin came along and f**ked it up otherwise they never would've of made him captain. Chosing hook over Moylan will be another mistake that will sum up Goulds time here.

Hook was a mistake regardless. We are pissing away our premiership window under an average coach.

We could handle losing Moylan had we kept TMM. Losing both though just holds our halves development back. Even if we believed TMM wasn't ready. Gus Clearly had visions of Cleary and TMM being our future. How can that change after 5 games together?

Same situation as Segeyaro and Korisau. Thats not to say Wallace hasnt been good. Or that Maloney wont be good. Its just that theyre temporary solutions and younger players with higher ceilings at this point in theit careers were lost.

7 years into Gus and his 5 year plan. Our hooker is looking at retirement this season, our 5/8th has a 3 year contract but is already older than Soward was when he retired and our halfback looks a 50/50 chance at leaving.

We have 2 years with Cleary. Unless we extend him thats our premiership window. I think Gus knows it and Maloney is a desperate attempt to get something before the window closes. Gus definitely doesnt seem confident that Cleary is staying.

Losing both TMM and Moylan in a season is unforgivable. The Cows might have the two best halves in the comp and they still chased TMM hard. That is smart. We are dumb, we trade Moylan for an ageing Maloney coming off his worst season in recent memory and we probably paid him more. That's f**king dumb. Maloney is on a retirement deal ffs, he was chasing that last big payday and he got it from us.

Betcats, in all your wisdom, what should have we done with Moylan? Or when he left, who should of replaced him?

Genuine question.

Im not convinced on Maloney. But its not impossible for him to bounce back from a poor season.

Its a downgrade longterm though for sure. How many good seasons could he possibly have left?

Moylan has a lot more than 3. The only real gain is Hook and Gus have to take responsibility now. They cant blame Maloney. Not like they did Soward, TMM, Cartwright and Moylan.

Temporary options gave them excuses. Maloney either takes us to the top 4 or Hook needs to cop that hes not good dnough.

If we get injuries its their fault our depth isnt able to cover them. They went all in on a top 15. I say 15 as we let go of 3 top 1u players and only replaced one. 2 spots will be a lottery for 15 min cameos.

I dont get paid big money to manage these guys but since you ask I would've fired the coach, or got rid of Moylan at the end of 2016 and focused on the talent we had.

Being a man manager is the most important part of the coaching job if you cant do that you cant coach. I find it very hard to believe that Moylan is a difficult player to manage, as previously stated he was a model NRL player up until midway through 2016.

Look at all the players we have released mid-season or mid contract, this Moylan thing isn't an isolated incident, the coach and/or gould just arse anyone who steps out of line in anyway, if you think you run 25 young men in a dictatorship when they have other options you are kidding.
Look at the clubs that are successful, they are not constantly releasing talented players, what we are doing is not going to lead to succuss.
